FESTIVALS AND CELEBRATIONS 教学设计
Teaching Objectives:
1. Knowledge objectives
To help students to learn more about different festivals and celebrations around the world.
2. Ability objectives
To improve students’ reading ability by expressing what the pictures related to festival celebrations are about. 3. Emotion objectives
To let the students realize why people celebrate festivals and the significance of cooperation by accomplishing group work.
Teaching important points
1. Get the students to have a clear understanding of the passage and be able to make summary on it.
2. Train students’ reading and speaking ability by leading them to finish the tasks designed accordingly.
Teaching difficult points
How to enhance the students’ ability of language application and get all the students involved in classroom interaction by conducting different festivals, triggering thoughts .
Teaching Aids Multimedia.
Teaching Procedures
I. Lead-in
Show students the pictures taken during a certain festival and asked related questions to arouse their learning interest.
*Teacher: Lead students to figure out the theme of this lesson.
*Students: Speak their mind under the teacher’s instructions and guidance.
Purpose: to draw students’ attention in a short period of time and get to the point
soon.

II. Reading 1. Skimming

Have a guess about which festival the people are celebrating with the picture hints given to you.
Part2: Scene play
Celebrate a festival that you like best with members in your group.
III. Reflection
Reflective thinking:
①Why people around the world celebrate different festivals? ②Which part of the passage can be regarded as conclusion.
IV. Assignment
Oral work:
• Search on the internet for two upcoming festivals: International Labor Day and Mother’s Day. Collect more details focusing on the time, origin, story and activities. ( share them with each other in the beginning of next class)
Written work:
• Write a short passage about what you plan to do for your mother on Mother’s Day.
V. My Evaluation
*Teacher: Encourage students to share their own opinions with the help of pictures
given. *Students: Put forward their ideas, comments, etc. on the basis of having a good
understanding of this passage. Purpose: to apply words and phrases from the passage to express themselves. *Teacher: Get ready to give a hand while students are making preparations for their
show. Make comments on the students’ performance. *Students: Prepare for the play in the form of group work by remembering their own
lines. Purpose: to practice reflective, creative and critical thinking of the students applying
what they have learned into practical use.
