Step I Warming up & Lead in
1. Listen to a song about Model Verbs to lead into the new lesson-- Unit 8 It must belong to Carla.
2. Play a guessing game.
Step Ⅱ Presentation

Do you want to be a detective? Yesterday, I found an exercise book, but there is no name on it. Could you please help me to find out the owner?

Show the pictures of the exercise book and lead the students to make inferences. While asking and answering, show the meanings of must, might, could and can’t.
Must—be sure, 100%; Might/could—maybe, be not sure,20-80%; Can’t—impossible,0%.
Whose … is this?
It must/might/could/can't be sb's.
2. Practice the target language. Show a picture to let Ss guess who she is .
3. be sb.’s = belong to sb.
Show a picture of a T-shirt to let Ss make inferences.
4. Summarize the sentence patterns.
Step Ⅲ (1a) Look, write and say
1. Some students are having a picnic now. Some of them left their things on the grass. What you can see in the picture?
2. Ask some students to name out the things in the picture. Compete in groups. (Each group has a fish. Every time they say out a word, they can get a bubble for their groups.)

3. Put these things in the three columns.
Step IV(1b)Listening
1. Whose… is this? Do you know whose toy car this is? Now please listen to the recording and find out whose these things are. Match the things with the persons while listening.
2. After listening, ask some students to tell the class their answers. Check the answers by asking and answering like this:
--Whose volleyball is this?
--It must belong to Carla.
Then ask half the class to ask and the rest to answer.
3. Now please listen to the recording again and find out how they know the owners of these things. Match the things with the reasons while listening.
4. After listening, ask some students to tell the class their answers. Check the answers by asking and answering like this:
--Whose volleyball is this?
--It must belong to Carla because she loves volleyball.
Then ask half the class to ask and the rest to answer.
(适当处理教材,将听力训练的难度降低,分两个步骤,先听一遍,连线人物和物品,并联系belong to句型操练,然后再听,连线原因,并联系句型进行再一次操练。)
Step Ⅴ (1c) Pair work.
1. First read the dialogue together:
--Whose volleyball is this?
--It must belong to Carla. She loves volleyball. Whose toy car is this?
--……
2. Then ask the students to ask and answer in groups, using the information in 1b.
3. Ask some groups to act it out in front of the class.
(从上一步小组活动到该环节全体操练,再到两两合作,结合1b的信息进行句型操练,巩固belong to的用法并引入must这一重点。选几组演示并鼓励。期间教师巡回并及时给予帮助。)
