Teaching Aims:
(1)knowledge aims:
①To learn to make inferences with must, might,could , can’t.
②To express opinions and reasons.
(2) ability aims:
①To train students’ reading abilities with reading skills, such as grasping the main idea of the passage,skimming and scanning.
②To express opinions and guessings according to observations and facts.
③
To guide students learn to cooperate with others.

moral aims:
To cultivate the students’ spirit of finding out the truth with facts.
2、The Analysis of Students:
(1)The students in Grade 9 are full of imagination and creativity. Many of them are talkative and like to express their ideas. They have learnt how to make inferences by using the target language. They like to cooperate with others.
(2)On the other hand,as for learning English, students in Grade 9 are in different levels and some students have so many difficulties in English learning.They can’t fully understand the class at all.
So I have tried the teacher--student teaching patterns to help them.
3、Important Points and Key Points.
(1)Important points:
Make inferences with “must, might, could” according to the facts.

Difficult points:
①Grasp the key structures and new words.
② Improve students’ reading abilities

Teaching Procedures:
(1) Warming-up
①.Start the class with a guessing game about Kenan ,which aims at reviewing modal verbs to make inferences.
②Move to Kenan's cases and invite students to play an inference game about owners of
daily things in Victor's family.Students can be interested in it.
(2) Pre-reading
①.Introduce something about Victor’s family to set up the situation for the reading part.
②At the same time,teach the new words and expressions .Let students talk in pairs to express their guessings and reasons.
(3)While -reading :fast reading
①List the noise situation to lead in the reading text.
②Try to get the main idea by skimming.Then work in pairs and discuss the answers.
While -reading : careful reading
①.Find the guessings and opinions of each person by finishing the chart.
Students should finish by themselves and then discuss with the partners.
②Check the answers in pairs.
Let the little teachers help the students if they have difficulties in reading and doing tasks.
(4)Post-reading
①Encourage students to imagine and infer about the noise and express their guessings and reasons.
②Share the guessings in pairs and
learn critical thinking from each other.
③Moral Teaching:Encourage students to learn to think critically and cultivate the students’ spirit of finding out the truth with facts in daily life.
(5)Homework
Assign the homework:
Write a passage about the all people’s guessings and your think about the noise in town.
