Greeting Daily greetings. Ⅱ. Lead-in Show a map of Chengdu and ask: -What’s this? (a map of Chengdu.) As we can see from the map, Chengdu is a very big city with many districts, and which district are you in now? (We are in Wenjiang district.) -If you want to have fun in other districts, and you don’t know how to get there, what can you do? (Ss: bring a paper map; use map apps; ask the local people for help…) T: ask for directions. (Write on the blackboard) This class we will going to learn how to ask for directions 2 politely. Ⅲ. Work on 1a 1.Let Ss observe the picture in 1a. Ask them the following questions. a. -How many people are there? -Who are new there? Who are local people? How do you know? -What are they talking about?(ask for and give directions) b. -What places can you see in the picture? (We can see a bank/… on Main/Center Street.) 2.Of all the places, we can do many things, let Ss read the activities. (Present the activities in 1a) -Where can you get some money? (We can get some money at Sunville bank in picture b.) 3.Finish 1a. Where can you do the things below? Match each thing with a place in the picture. Many different answers are possible. 4.Check the answers like this: We can get some money at Sunville bank in picture b. Ⅳ. Work on 1b. Listen and complete the conversations in the picture in 1a. 1.Pre-listening: a. Observe the sentences in 1a, find the key words and make predictions, what do we need here? (do sth, a place, a street…) b. Do we have enough time to write all the words while listening? Then what can you do? (Listening strategy: write the first or key letter while listening.) 2.While-listening: a. Activity 1: finish 1b, listen and complete. b. Activity 2: listen again, mark where these people are and draw lines to show how they get to the destinations. 3.Post-listening: a. Check the answers. b. Read the listening materials. c. Underline the sentence patterns: ask for information: Excuse me, could you please tell me where I can…? Do you know how/when…? give directions: Yes/Sure, there is a…on…street. Go along…/turn left/right/…on your left/right. (include the location and how to get there to make the direction clear.) d. Sublimate emotion: Can we change the first sentence into “Where can I buy some stamps?” Let Ss find the differences. Which is better? why? We should be polite when we ask for information by using “Excuse me” “please” “thank you” and so on. Ⅴ. Work on 1c. (Pair-work) 3 1.Make conversations using the information in 1a. (two students a group) a. Analyze the conversation in 1c. (including asking for directions, giving directions, showing your thanks and other information.) b. Talk about the places in 1a. Useful expressions: A:Excuse me, could you please tell me where I can…? B:Yes, there is a … on … street. A:Do you know how to get there? B:Sure, just go along…/go past…/turn right on … street/turn left… The…is on your right/on your left/beside the…/next to…/ between…and… 2.Make your own conversations according to the map around our school.
