Five step method; Audio-video; Communicative approach; Task-based learning;Group work;Pair work. Teaching period: one class. Teaching procedures Step 1. Greeting and review Greeting the students as usual.
Review the words that we have learned in Section A by two little games called “Look and Say”. Show some pictures of balls such as basketball, soccer ball, baseball, volleyball, ping-pong ball on the PPT. Ask students to say it as soon as they see it and as quickly as possible.
Review the target language that we have learned in Section A by showing some pictures and then ask students to make a conversation after the model.
S1:Do you have a/an…? S2:Yes, I do. / No, I don’t. S1:Does she have a … ? S2:Yes, she does./No, she doesn’t. S1:Does he have a … ? S2:Yes, he does./No, he doesn’t .
After three minutes, ask a few pairs to act out the conversations using the
pictures on the PPT. Step 2. Lead-in
Teach the new words by showing some pictures to the students and ask: What do you think of English classes? What about having a meeting? What about this picture ? What about this question? What about sleeping?
Then let students to say the right
English words from their Chinese
meaning and then to say the right Chinese meanings from the English words.
Point to the five pictures and ask students to match each pictures with one of the words in 1a. Check the answers together. Step 3. Listening
Play the recording for the first time and let students finish 1b--- Listen and check (√) the description words you hear in 1a.
Play the recording for the second time and let students finish 1c---Listen again. What does Paul say about these activities. Choose a word from 1a to fill in each blank. Check the answers one by one.
Play the recording for the third time and let students fill in the blanks. A: Let’s play computer games!
B: That sounds (1) __________, but I don’t have a computer. A: Well, do you have a volleyball? B: Yes.
A: Then let’s play volleyball. B: Oh, volleyball is so(2)_________..... A: Ok, let’s watch TV.
B: That sounds (3)_________. Hmmm…Let’s play soccer! Do you have a soccer ball? A: No, I don’t.
B: Oh. Well, do you have a basketball? A: Yes, I do. Let’s play basketball. B: That sounds (4)___________. Step 4. Pair work
Show some pictures and lead to the key expressions and key sentences: play basketball、play soccer、play volleyball / let’s do . A :Let’s play volleyball! B : Ok./ Great . All right. A good idea. That sounds good….
Then give a sample conversation so that the students can know how to do
this activity. Leave students several minutes to do this work. As they work ,move around the classroom, offering help if necessary. Invite some pairs to act their conversation for the whole class. Step 5. Group work A: Let’s play basketball. B: I don’t have a basketball. A: Let’s play ping-pong.
B: That sounds good/interesting/fun… A: Let’s play volleyball. B: I don’t have a volleyball. A: Let’s play soccer.
B: That sounds good/interesting/fun…
Give two sample conversations so that the students can know how to do this activity. Leave students several minutes to do this work by using the target language.
