I、Analysis of the teaching materials
The content of this lesson belongs to Module 4 Fine arts ---Western,Chinese and Pop Arts, the vocabulary and reading part,and I will place emphasis on the reading part.It is mainly focused on the topic of Fine Arts . The main purpose of this lesson is to enable the students to master the key words of this unit by finishing the first part of this class and to know more about some of the most famous artists and their works.Art plays a very important part in our life,which is an essential part in the students’ daily study.Personally, I think the content of this unit is very interesting and the teachers have been given more space to prepare their lessons. In this class, in addition to the normal teaching goals,I will design some activities to vivify the atmosphere of the class and lead the students to appreciate the beauty of famous paintings.The topics in the discussion part can cultivate the students’ divergent thinking and improve their ability of thinking and expression.
II、Analysis of students
The students whom I will teach are Senior High School students. Students in this age group have certain cognitive ability and their own views and opinions. At the same time, they have a strong interest in learning and are willing to explore unknown fields. However, most students are not confident enough to express their ideas in English, which requires teachers to inspire students in class and encourage them to express themselves boldly.
III、Teaching goals
According to the specific description of the general goal in the New Curriculum Standards and combining the reality and textbook content of senior high school students, the following three goals are formulated, namely, language and knowledge goals, ability goals and emotional attitude

goals.
1. Language and knowledge goals:
On the basis of mastering key words and phrases in this unit, students should finish the vocabulary part to consolidate the new words of the unit ,read the text carefully to finish the tasks and discuss the topics in groups to have a good command of the title of this unit.
2. Ability goals:
Enable students to form the ability of getting the general idea of the text through fast reading and grasping the detailed information through careful reading. Meanwhile,the discussion part is aimed at developing the students’ ability of thinking and help them to form the habit of thinking in English in the whole process. 3.Emotional goals:
A. The study of this class will help the students to have a better understanding of the fine arts of painting, uncover a world of art, inspire their enthusiasm in exploring it and develop their ability of appreciating beauty.
B. Through various classroom activities to improve students' interest in learning English, cultivate students' learning confidence and durability
IV、Teaching important & difficult points
1. Activate students' existing cognition and strengthen it through all kinds of activities.
2.Develop students' English thinking ability and the ability to effectively input and output information.
3.Activate and strengthen students' ability of appreciating beauty.
V、Teaching methods
The above teaching objectives are based on the concepts of "second language acquisition theory" and "holistic language teaching theory".In order to achieve the above teaching objectives, I will apply task-based teaching method and situational teaching method, as well as the "P-W-P" scaffolding reading mode (Pre-reading - While-reading - Post-reading).
VI、Teaching procedures
Step 1 Vocabulary
At first, I will come straight to the first part of this class ---vocabulary .For I will place emphasis on the following parts of this class,this part will be finished in a short time.After reading the words aloud together,students will be asked to match the words with their definitions one by one.
Design intention: To match the new words with their paraphrases can strengthen the students’ understanding of the words and develop their English thinking ability. Step 2 Pre-reading:
1.Appreciation of some famous paintings
Before carrying out the reading task of this lesson, I will show some Chinese and Western paintings to the students.They needn’t do or say anything about them but just enjoy them.Then I will ask some simple questions about them:Are they beautiful?Are the Chinese paintings the same

as the western ones? And draw a conclusion:They are quite different,and there is a big difference between them.Then lead to the reading material.
Design intention:Appreciating famous paintings can develop the students’ sense of beauty.It is also a good way to inspire the students’ interest in the topic of this unit and to guide the students into the reading part. 2.Speaking
In this section, I will firstly show the pictures of the Reading task to the students on the screen, then stick the printed ones on the blackboard,which would be a more vivid display to them.My questions are:
1).Observe these pictures carefully.
2).Do you like these pictures? Which one do you like best? Why?
Two minutes will be given to them and then some students will be asked to stand before the class and share their opinions.
The four pictures on the text book are as follows:
Design intention: This part will enable the students to have a clearer observation of the pictures by printing them out and sticking them on the blackboard.Students can express their own opinions about pictures freely and can become curious about more information related to them,which is the very content of the reading material. It is also helpful for the students to improve their English thinking and oral English.

Step 3 Reading 1. Fast reading
Ask students to read the text quickly and try to get the main idea of the text ,then finish the tasks show one the screen and Guided learning plan: 1) Read passages A-F, then:
Match paintings 1-4 with descriptions in paragraphs A-D. Say which paintings are mentioned in paragraphs E and F. 2)Choose the best answers.
What do the passages mainly talk about? A. Western art and Chinese art B. Some beautiful pictures
C. Some famous artists and their great works
D. Some famous artists
What’s the main idea of paragraphs E and F?
A. Wu Hang doesn’t like the pictureof a golden-haired girl. B. Wu Hang and Sara Hardwick’s idea of paintings. C. Sarah likes the paintings of Qi Baishi very much.
2. Careful reading
Ask students to read the text again and finish the following questions: 1). The Cubist art movement ___.
(a) showed different sides of an object in the same picture
(b) is considered to be the greatest art movement of the twentieth century. 2). Pop art _________.
(a) advertised the twentieth-century life
(b) tried to show ordinary life in the modern world 3). Qi Baishi ______.

Design intention: This is the main body of this class.Fast reading and Careful reading will help the students to develop their ability of comprehension and the ability of extracting useful information which is necessary to answer questions. Step 4 Discussion
Topic 1:How many art forms do you know?
Topic 2:If you have to learn one of these art forms,Which one would you choose?Why?
Ask the students to discuss the topics in groups and then express their ideas freely.Topic 2 is a relatively open one .There is no right or wrong about their opinions. Encourage students to express themselves boldly.According to their own understanding to the topics, any reasonable possibilities

based on the topic should be encouraged.To reduce the difficulty ,the following structures will be given:
(1)If I have to learn one of them ,I'd like to choose...Because... (2) I like ...best,because...
(3) I think ...is great!I would choose it because... (4) I am interested in ...because... (5) I want to learn...because...
(6) The reason why I would like to learn ...is that... (7) In my opinion,...
(8) As far as I am concerned,...
Design intention: This is the output of the language. Open-ended questions give students a relatively free space to speak, and let the students imagine boldly. Any possibility based on questions should be encouraged .The speaking process improves students' language organization ability and English thinking ability.Actually,the whole part is the regression of the topic of this unit.
Step 5 Homework
1. Read the passage again and review the new words and expressions.
2. Search for more information about the four artists introduced in the passages.
