Sandstorms in Asia
Learning Aims:
1. Enable the students to improve their listening skills gradually. 2. Enable the students to listen for the main idea and details 3. Enable the students to take notes effectively while listening; 4. Enable the students to talk about environmental problems.
Difficult points:
1. Learn to use the listening skills .
2.Get the students to give opinions about environmental pollution freely.
Teaching Procedures
Step1 :Revision
1.Think about the names of some natural disaster.
Tornado hurricane earthquake flood drought sandstorm typhoon lightning thunderstorm mudslide tsunami (海啸) fire volcanic eruption
2.Compare two pictures and know the three main environmental problems that we are facing. Step2: Pre- listening
Look through Exercise 1 on page 35, and pay attention to: 1. Read the new words in the box
2. Play a game to match the words with the definitions 3. Read and memorize the words and their definitions. Step3:While-listening
1. Listen to the interview carefully and complete Exercise 2 on page 35 in the text book. 2. Listen again and then finish Exercise 4 on page 35 in the text book. Step4: Post-listening
Retell the listening material according to the topics mentioned in Exercise 2 . Step5: Speaking
1.Look through the pictures and get some information from them

2.Work in pairs and talk about some environmental problems, using some patterns Student A: One major environmental problem is ... Student B. because...
Student A:It does damage to/is bad for Student B: I couldn't agree with you more. Step 6: Discussion
How to protect the environment? for people and for a government? 1. Talk about different ideas individually 2 . Play a game to put the methods into two parts 2. Summarize the methods of environmental protection.
Step7: Have a short talk using this example:
Our major environmental problem is cars, because they pollute the air with carbon dioxide. We need a cleaner way to travel. People should cycle and walk more. Step 8: Presentation
(Helpingmy students consolidate what they’ve learned just now; giving them chances to express their own ideas freely; developing their speaking skills; monitoring their progress in pronunciation and intonation; cultivating their awareness of cooperating with others)
Work in groups of four and do a TV interview
Student A is a reporter. You interview a government official who is in charge of environmental protection. Student B is the government official. Tell the reporter how to improve the environment of your city. Student C is an ordinary resident. Student D is another resident.
Step 9: Enjoy and learn to sing a song- --Heal the world Step10: Homework
Design a poster that encourages people to look after the environment
Self-evaluation
Generally speaking, this lesson went well. Most of the students were quite excited and motivated due to the appropriate arrangement and design of various tasks. However, there wasn’t enough time left for singing the song, because in the speaking stage, there are too many tasks . Another reason is that I’m not confident enough to sing an English song in class.
In order to improve the weaknesses mentioned above, I will firstly, arrange the time more reasonably due the specific level of my students so that they will make the greatest improvement within the limited time. Secondly, I will learn to sing some English songs in order to motivate students to sing English songs in public. . Only in this way can my class be enriched and colorized.
To boil down, I will keep perfecting myself. I believe next time I can do better.
