本单元的主题是China and the world,以中西方文化为主要内容。话题1 China attracts millions of tourists from all over the world以介绍中国文化为主线来介绍中国的风景名胜。本节课的学习内容为 Section C,围绕文化主题,通过学习描述中国的万里长城---这一具有鲜明文化特色的中国古代建筑,激发学生使用英语介绍本国文化的兴趣,增强其对祖国文化的热爱,培养学生的民族自豪感和自信心。 II. 教学目标: 1. 知识目标:
词汇:正确识读与描述与中国名胜相关的词汇,熟练掌握以下重要表达方式:stretch
from…to…, a treasure of Chinese civilization, remain, separate, enemy, expect等。
语法:理解定语从句的功能
功能:使用口笔语的方式描述所熟悉的国内风景名胜,特别是古代建筑。 2. 能力目标:
1)能借助图片和题目等预测信息,并结合已有常识听懂有关长城的英文介绍。
2)能通过浏览获取文章的大意,通过细读了解长城的历史:概况、修建的时间、材料和作用以及现代文化意义等。
3)能对获取的信息进行梳理和加工,分析课文结构,总结逻辑关系。 4)能使用较复杂的语言结构,如使用定语从句,描述中国的风景名胜。 3. 情感态度:
通过学习描述“the Great Wall”这一具有鲜明文化特色的中国古代建筑,激发学生使用英语介绍本国文化的兴趣,增强其对祖国文化的热爱,培养学生的民族自豪感和自信心。 III.教学难点:

2. Introduce the title of Unit 5 Topic 1: China attracts millions of tourists from all over the world. And ask the Ss: What do you think of in China attracts millions of tourist from all over the world?
【设计意图】:通过问候建立良好的师生关系。通过对标题的设问,引导学生思考并回答:beautiful scenery, tourist attractions, Chinese ancient constructions, foods, Beijing Opera, languages, customs and so on. 确立本节课中国文化这一主线,吸引学生注意。

1. Boys and girls, look at the screen, what’s it? (长城图片) Have you ever been to the Great Wall?
Could you tell me something about the Great Wall you know? What impressed you most when you go to the Great Wall?

Step 3. While reading
1. Read 1. and answer (by skimming the passage): * What’s the main idea of the passage?
* Who is the writer? We don’t exactly know. Maybe a Chinese…maybe an American or someone else who loves Chinese culture or is interested in Chinese culture * Why did the writer write the passage?
To introduce Chinese culture to the world and show his or her pride in it.

3. Read for the detail
1) Read Para 1, to see if it can help you to get a better general impression of the Great Wall. Fill in the blanks to finish the sentences:
The Great Wall is one of the greatest wonders of the world. The total length of the Great Wall is 8,800 kilometers . It stretches from Shanhaiguan in the east to Jiayuguan in the west. 2) Read Para 2, try to know more about its building time. Answer the questions:
* When was the beginning time of the Great Wall? 2500 years ago/Warring States period.
* Who joined all these small walls together to make the Great Wall? Qin Shihuang, the first emperor who united the six states.
3) Read Para 3, Compare the material in Qin dynasty and in Ming dynasty Answer the questions:
* What was the material of the walls in Qin dynasty? And what about it in Ming dynasty?
In Qin dynasty it was made of packed earth(夯土) and wood and in the Ming dynasty it was made of stone and brick.
* What’s the advantage of the stone and brick? They would last longer than packed earth and wood.
4) Read Para 4. Try to guess the meaning of the new words. * Match the words with their meanings.

The Great wall is a famous Chinese tourist attraction in the world. It is also a treasure of Chinese civilization and a symbol of the Chinese nation. We are all proud of it. And I know there are also many beautiful and famous tourist attractions in Zhangzhou, such as ... Suppose your pen pal, David, is going to Zhangzhou for a visit. He is interested in Nanjing Earth Building which is the sign of our city, write an email within 100 words to him to introduce it.

I’m so happy that you’ll come to Zhanghzou for a visit. I’d like to introduce a famous tourist attraction, Nanjing Earth Building, to you.
Nanjing Earth Building is in my hometown Zhangzhou. The construction was begun during Tang dynasty, which was about 1300 years ago. Nanjing Earth Building was made of raw soil, wood, stone and other building materials, which is warm in winter and cool in summer. In the ancient, people built it not only for living in it but also for protecting themselves. The earth building can separate them from their enemies. Nanjing Earth Building is famous for its long history, large number, grand scale, strange shape and unique style. It’s the crystallization of ancient people’s wisdom, technology and culture. It’s a place that is worth visiting.
