We have talked about the beginning and the development of the story. From the development, what do you think of power, money or fame? Can they make people completely happy? Ss: No.
Then what can make people really happy? Is the shirt of a happy man?
It’s time for us to know the ending of the story.
Before the real ending is shown to you, we’ll talk about the possible endings.
Of course, every student can have your own ideas. Let’s read the possible endings in 1a. (预设评价:
1 You prefer stories with happy endings. 2 Not every story has happy endings 3 It’s nice of you to give us your opinion. 4 Your opinion is quite different.)

These are possible endings offered by our books. I know you’re all creative students. So you can come up with more reasonable endings. Please discuss in groups and I’m waiting for your endings of the story. We’ll have a competition with other groups.

1d Answer the questions:
From the sentences, we know the general found the happy man. Now let’s focus on the details of the ending.
Here are some questions, read them together.
Though they are long questions, I think you just focus on When? What? Why?
(Tip: pay attention to the supporting sentences)
听前预测:让学生猜测为什么这个poor man那么快乐,通过想象来给出符合逻辑的回答,既锻炼了学生的思维品质,同时也能练习口语表达。 同时给出长难句型,为学生后面的听力扫清障碍。

1. Read and imitate
Since we have known the ending of the story, I need you to read it as well as the tape. First of all, let’s read after the tape to imitate. Second, it’s your turn to read it.
(Read after the tape sentence by sentence.)

2. Thinking and talking
After reading the ending of the story, we have learnt a lot from it.
