First, make notes about Chinese table manners in groups. Students are expected to finish the task in 5 minutes. Ask students to write sentences like this: You are not supposed to put your elbows on the table.
Try to use these useful expressions:
You’re (not) supposed to... It’s polite/impolite to... You’re (not) expected to... You should/shouldn't... Then, let’s see which group does the best. Finally, give some useful sentences.
1.You’re not supposed to put your elbows on the table. 2.You are supposed to eat with chopsticks. 3. It’s polite to ask older people to start eating first. 4.It’s impolite to stick your chopsticks into your food. 5.You shouldn’t point at anyone with your chopsticks. 6. It’s impolite to use your chopsticks to hit an empty bowl. 7. It’s impolite to talk when you’re having dinner.
8.You’re not supposed to make a big noise when you are eating soup.
