Teaching Plan
1. Background information Students: Class 2, Grade 1 2. Teaching aims
(1) Knowledge aims:
1/ Students are able to make sentences using "be know as" and "having done" structure. 2/ Students are able to write an introduction of an artist.
(2) Ability aims:
Students are able to get detailed information about the three composers from the text. (3) Emotional aims:
Students can have a better understanding of the three great composers. 3. Main words and phrases
1/ Haydn is known as “the father of the symphony”.
2/ Having worked there for 30 years,Haydn moved to London.
3/ Mozart was a composer, possibly the greatest musical genius of all time.
4/ By the time he was 14, Mozart had composed many pieces for the harpsichord, piano and violin.
5/ Haydn met Mozart in 1781 and was very impressed with him. Mozart met Beethoven and was impressed by him. 4. Important and difficult points
Important point: Master main words and phrases of the passage.
Difficult point: Make sentences using "be know as" and "having done" structure. 5. Teaching methods

Stage 1: Leading-in (5 minutes)
Show a piece of video clip about the Golden Hall of Vienna. Present the study aims of the lesson. Stage 2: Reading (15 minutes)
Step 1: Read aloud the first part about Haydn and answer the following questions. 1/ What is Haydn known as?
2/ How did he change the form of symphonies? 3/ How long did he work in eastern Austria?
Step 2: Read the second part about Mozart and answer the following questions. 1/ How many pieces of music did Mozart compose? 2/ How old was he when he started composing music? 3/ How long did Mozart and Haydn remain friends?
Step 3: Listen to the third part about Beethoven. Decide whether these sentences are true (T) or false (F) and then correct the false ones.

1/ Beethoven showed musical talent when he was in his later years.
2/ Although Haydn has no influence on the Beethoven’s musical development, he advised Beethoven
to go to Vienna.
3. Beethoven gave up composing after he became deaf.
Step 4: Students check the answers of task three on the study guide with their partners. Choose one of the 3 composers to retell the introduction based on the information in the form.
Stage 3: Language points (10 minutes)
Step 1: Explain the usage of “be known as” and then present sentences made by students Step 2: Explain how to make sentences with “having done” structure and then do some
exercises.
Stage 4: Writing (15 minutes)
Group work: write an introduction of Michael Jackson and invited some groups to present their writing.
Stage 5: Homework
Please write an introduction of your favourite star.
