2Teaching Material
This is a grammar lesson. It plays a very important role in students' grammar learning .Therefore this lesson is in the important position of the
teaching material. By studying this lesson, we’ll enable students to know how to use the past perfect tense proficiently and develop the interest
in grammar learning.
3The Important and Difficult Points
To help the students use the past perfect tense proficiently; to arouse students' passion of individual thinking.

4.1第一学时
4.1.1教学活动
活动1【导入】Interesting warming-up
     Do a guessing game about a person according to the details 1. She is a swimming player. 2. She got the copper medal in the
 Olympic Games this year. 3. She can make lots of funny face expressions. Who is she? Do you know her famous sentence?
Now, fill in the blank Miss Fu said “I________ my prehistoric power!” another way Miss Fu said that she ________ her prehistoric
power. Here “had used” is the form of the past perfect tense. And about had done, when to use? Show the students the definition
and draw a time line, to make the different tenses clear on the time line. Then compared to the present perfect tense, let the students
answer the passive voice and the negative form of the past perfect tense.   Give two sentences and let the students make the
complete sentence. “I finished my work at nine o’clock yesterday; I went to bed at ten o’clock yesterday.”—“I had finished the work
before I went to bed yesterday.” “The work had been finished by me before I went to bed yesterday.”
活动2【讲授】Context Learning
Show the students many interesting pictures; let the students make sentences with “had done” according to the given words. 
(Quick answer)
Picture One: Who is he? Where? Is he happy? Why?
Key words: The train left; Monkey King arrived
Sentence: The train had left when Monkey King arrived.
Picture Two: Who is she? Yes, she is not only good at PE but also English. Look at the information, give me the sentence.
Key words: major in English, Beijing Normal University; before she got master degree, Mexico University.
Sentence: Lang Ping had majored in English in Beijing Normal University before she got the master degree in Mexico University.
Picture Three: It is a film poster named “my old classmate” in 2014, which I like very much, and it is the first time...
Key words: the first time; such a wonderful film
Sentence: It is the first time that they have seen such a wonderful film about school life.
     And they told me that it was the first time that...
Sentence: It was the first time that they had seen such a wonderful film about school life.
Picture Four: Wow! TY boys! You love them very much right? So do I, but I am too busy to watch their programs, 
so I… fill in the blank
I ________(hope)that I would watch their performance. It means that I really wanted to watch it, but I didn’t, what a pity! 
Picture Five: So many lovely girls, right? Every time I see the photo taken by myself, I feel so excited; do you still remember
 the activity?
Key words: By the end of last term; learn how to dance “little apple”
Sentence: We had learned how to dance “little apple” by the end of last term.
Picture Six: Look at the picture, the boy is working very hard, so tell me the result.
Fill in the blank: H e __________ (finish) the homework before his mother came back.
And the students who are very lazy will be like this, show the next picture…
Key words: She began to do the homework; she felt so sleepy. (Hardly…when; no sooner …than)
Sentence: Hardly had she began to do the homework when she felt so sleepy.
                 No sooner had she began to do the homework than she felt so sleepy.
活动3【活动】Individual thinking& Summary
Make a summary about the conditions related to the past perfect tense on your own and have a discussion in your group then
give me the example. (Team work)(2marks per sentence) 
 Correct the mistakes the students made in their sentences. And after the show, present the conditions on the screen.
 1.过去完成时表示在过去某时或某个动作之前发生的动作或存在的状态或表示经历或经验.
2.过去完成时表示过去某一时间以前开始一直延续到那个时间并可能延续下去的动作。常和by (by the end of)或since, for引导的表时间的从句或短语连用,但必须要与一个表示过去时的动作相对照.
3.过去完成时表示在某一动作之前已经完成的动作. 过去的时间由before, after, when引导的时间状语从句表示出来.
4.在told, said, knew, heard, thought等动词引导的宾语从句中,一般用过去完成时。
5.用于表示意向的动词,如hope, expect, wish, think, mean, suppose等,用过去完成时表示“原本……,未能……”。
6. 固定句式当中。如 hardly…when ; no sooner…than; it was the first/second time that S+ had done
活动4【练习】Practice
 First, make a comparison between the present perfect tense and the past perfect tense, write sentences with different tenses and arouse the students’ attention to the special situation of the non-continuous verbs.

2. I ____________ (learn) 3000 English words till then.
3. I ____________ (learn) 3000 English words in the last two years. 
More practice 
1. 他昨天买了一本小说。
He bought a novel yesterday.
2. 他昨天回家之前买了一本小说。
He had bought a novel before he went back home.
3. 他买了这本小说已经两个月了。
He has had the novel for two months.
4. 到上个月为止,他买这本小说已经两个月了。
  He had had the novel for two months by the end of last month.
 Here, the verb “buy” is not continuous, we have to change it into a continuous one “have”, the similar ones are as follows :
  go/go—be away; come—be here; marry—be married; die—be dead etc.
