Writing: My Favorite Scientist
教学设计思路:本堂写作课采用输入与输出紧密结合的教学模式,即以读促写、以写固读、学、习并进的教学模式。课前让学生先去阅读关于自己最喜爱的科学家的英语文章,并用自己喜欢的方式画出思维导图。一方面有助于学生从整体上认识和把握整篇阅读文章,另一方面也为后面的写作任务提出供有效的输入,推进写作的顺利进行。呈现写作任务后之,与学生一起回顾英语写作六步法,使学生能更好地牢记这些写作的基本要领,更好地完成写作任务。写作任务其中有一个要点是从最喜爱的科学家身上学到了什么,其实是想通过这个环节让学生有意识地去学习科学家的优秀品质,以提高学生的素养。 Teaching targets:
After this lesson, the students are expected to be able to: 1. Draw a mind map for their favorite scientist;
2. Write a speech about their favorite scientist with proper words and
expressions;
3. Master the six steps of writing;
4. Learn scientific spirits and personal qualities from their favorite scientist. Important & Difficult Points:
1. To help the students to write a speech about their favorite scientist with
proper words and expressions;
2. To help the students to master the six steps of writing;
3. To help the students to learn scientific spirits and personal qualities from
their favorite scientist.
Teaching and Learning Strategies:
1. Students will cultivate their ability of individual and cooperative learning by
doing some activities independently and some in groups. 2. Students will form a habit of question and thinking. Teaching aids: Multimedia devices and PPT
Teaching Steps: Step I Leading-in
Lead in the writing task by presenting some photos of famous scientists at home and abroad. Students are required to speak out the names of the famous scientists and say something about them. Step II Presentation
Present the writing task. The students are required to write a speech on their favorite scientist.
Steps III Presentation and practice of the six steps of the writing task
Help the students to master the six steps of writing by practicing them step by step.
Step IV Sharing the mind map
Students are invited to share their mind map, which was done as their homework after reading the passage on their favorite scientist. Step V Writing
Help the students to complete the composition with the help of the students’ mind map and the teacher’s mind map of some useful words and expressions. Step VI Improvement of the composition
Help the students to correct and polish their composition according to the criteria of NEMT. Step VII Homework
1. The students are required to copy their writing with better handwriting. 2. Recommend eight movies about scientists to help students learn more from the scientists in a more interesting and relaxing way. Reflection after class:
1. More ways are needed to help students to draw a better mind map. 2. More time should be spared to polish their writing.
