Ⅰ. The Source of the Teaching Material
This is the first period of Module 2 Traffic Jam from Book 4, published by the Foreign Language Teaching and Research Press. In this module, we mainly focus on traffic jam,a problem needed to be solved all around the world. However, we’ll mainly introduce several means of transport to the students, such as taxis, buses and trolleybuses, pedicabs and so on through learning the reading passage Getting Around in Beijing in this period. Ⅱ. The Teaching Guidance
【The Guidance】Under the guidance of the new curriculum standard of senior high school English teaching and the quality education, my lesson is closely connected with the application of the English language in our daily life in order to achieve the goal of helping the students build a positive attitude towards life. Besides, this lesson is designed to educate the students to travel environmentally friendly after learning the reading passage. Make sure that the students have realized that it is their duty to call on the people around them to choose green travel.
【The Analysis of the Reading Passage】The main task of this period is to know about means of transport through the reading passage Getting Around in Beijing, drawing a mind map of the reading passage and then continue to write another kind of means of transport. Offered a word “Beijing”, the students are required to brainstorm words related in English first. Then come into the passage.Next, different teaching strategies such as fast-reading and careful reading are designed to train and improve the students’ reading ability.Mind map is used to help students organize their ideas ,sharpen their mind and improve their communication skills and hold their attention and at the same time know the significance of teamwork.
【The Analysis of the Students】Some students are shy and quiet while some others are active and talkative in class. Some are poor in learning English. Therefore, it is necessary to take these differences into account before the class and prepare proper tasks for them .
Ⅲ. The Teaching Goals
1) The Goals of Knowledge and Ability
a)Learn and master the words and useful expressions to express the means of transport in English correctly;
b)Get the main idea of the text and be able to accomplish the tasks given through fast-reading and careful reading,using a mind map to help students develop a mind habit and improve their reading comprehension ability;
c)Train and improve the students’ writing skills in “continue to write” part.
d)Encourage the students to introduce another kind of means of transport with the help of the mind map in this period.

2) The Goals of Process and Methods
a)Mind map is the main form in careful reading, which is a good way to help students organize the structure and ideas of the passage.
b)Improve the students’ integrating skills and cultivate their creativity during the process of mind mapping;
c)Develop their sense of group co-operation during the learning process. 3) The Goals of Emotional Attitudes and Values
a)Offer the students an enjoyable lesson to help them keep a positive attitude towards life; b)Educate the students to develop a sense of green travel;
c)Help the students raise the awareness of a low-carbon lifestyle. 4)The Goals of the Application of the Multimedia
a)Create a vivid and lively learning atmosphere for the students’s learning English;
b)Arouse the students’ interest in English and stimulate their learning enthusiasm with the aid of the multimedia.
Ⅳ. The Teaching Important and Difficult Points 1)Get the main idea of the text;

3)Help the students develop a good reading habit to improve their learning efficiency using a mind map;

StepⅠ. Warming up& Lead-in Brainstorming and Speaking
The teacher shows one word “Beijing” to the Ss, asking a question : what comes into your mind when you look at the word?
【intention】Individual work:To arouse the Ss’ love of the capital of our country and lead them to talk about the topic of travel and which means of transport to choose while traveling in Beijing.
StepⅡ. Reading
1)Fast reading: read the passage quickly and find the answers to the following questions. 1.How many means of transport are there in the text? And what are they? 2. Who might find the information useful? 3. Where can you find the information? A. a news report B. a travel brochure C.a science magazine D. an advertisement
【intention】Individual work: to check if the Ss have got the general idea of the passageand mastered the skill of reading the headings to get the general idea of the passage.
1)Careful reading:
A: Ask the Ss to read the text carefully and form a mind map as usual.
【intention】To strengthen the students’s ability of drawing mind map to organise their ideas clearly and help them understand the passage well.
B:After reading the text , the teacher and the students draw the mind map for the first part together. The teacher should give some clues : What has been introduced in the first paragraph ?

C:After the cooperation between the teacher and the students , the students should work in Group of five as usual to draw the mind maps of other four parts . Group 1&2 for buses and trolleybuses; group 3&4 for minibuses; group 5&6 for underground group 7&8 for pedicabs. After 3-5 minutes , find 4 volunteers to present their mind maps to the whole class..
【intention】Group of five: a) to master the structure and details of the reading passage; b) to develop the Ss’ sense of co-operation and improve their learning efficiency. And after this part ,the students can write another kind of means of transport and give advice on which kind means of transport to choose easily.
StepⅢ. Consolidation:Discussion & continue to write
After the main map, the students have mastered how to introduce a means of transport and give advice to others , using useful expressions the students have learnt in the passage. Therefore , ask the students to write another kind of means of transport and they can discuss with their partner.After 3-5 minutes the students should present it to the whole class.
【intention】pair work.: ask the Ss to apply what they’ve learnt in class to their oral discussion and writing so as to practice and improve their skills of writing.
StepⅣ. Summary
Summarize with the whole class. After this class , the students have realized that with the development of science and technology, it indeed brings us a lot of convenience and comfort but at

the same time,it brings us problems such as traffic jams and haze. Therefore , we should use public transport to help reduce the problem of traffic jams and choose the green travel.

StepⅥ. Blackboard DesignⅧ. Reflection on Teaching Efficiency
During the whole teaching process, students were active to finish the assigned tasks and give me satisfying answers. All the tasks involved in both easy ones and difficult ones were carefully designed for students of different levels. Students did very well in the mind mapping part and the task for consolidation and present a satisfying and unexpected writing in which the students use the useful expressions they have learnt in class such as offer an alternative to, you should ...; Ofo bicycles are worth using etc in the consolidation part. From these I can see that mind mapping is a good way to improve the students reading ability and help them organize their ideas. And the teaching efficiency have been achieved.
However, there is still improvement in my teaching: offer more chances for the students to brainstorm and cultivate their creativity in my future teaching. Meanwhile , encourage more students to express themselves in English.
