VI. Teaching procedures
Step1. Lead in
Ask students whether they like travelling or not.
Describe one of my trips to students ,showing some pictures. Ask students to introduce one of their trips. Step2. Reading
This is the second part of Wang Kun’s journal. From the passage, we know that it is late at night and Wang Kun’s sister is sleeping in the tent. 1.Skimming
Ask Ss to skim the passage and answer the question:How is the journal organized? Then find out some phrases to support the idea. 2. Careful reading
1)Ask students to read the passage again and answer the question: What did they see , do and how did they feel?
2) Find out some useful expression ,which will help you to write your travel journal.
Ask students to discuss with their deskmates .
3) Analyse the following sentence and paraphrase a figure of speech----simile
Our legs were so heavy and cold that they felt like blocks of ice.
Read the following sentences and learn how to write a sentence using simile. Have you ever seen snowmen ride bicycles? That’s what we looked like! The lakes shone like glass in the setting sun and looked wonderful. Look at some pictures and make sentences using simile. Step3. Writing
Ask student to write a travel journal.
Suppose you were Wang kun, you went to Jiuzhaigou last summer vacation. Please write a travel journal to share your experience.
Give students some minutes to write their travel journal .After a few minutes, ask them to share their composition in a group of four and select the best one.
Step4. Homework
Write a travel journal to describe one of your trips.
