教学目标
  At the end of the class, the students will be albe to:
1. find basic information about each festival mentioned in the passage;
2. create their own festival by using what they have learnt. 
2学情分析
本次授课对象为普通中学的普通班,学生英语成绩薄弱,英语阅读能力较差;班里男生较多,思维活跃,可以在老师的引导下进行积极地思考,敢于用英语来表达思想。
3重点难点
The students can understand why people celbrate festivals and create their own festivals.
4教学过程
4.1第一学时
4.1.1教学活动
活动1【导入】lead-in
Ask students to list some festivals, then watch a video clip about Wangguo Festival in Tibet and ask seveal questions about it.
Purpose: to activate the students and get them to prepare for the lesson. 
活动2【活动】skimming
Get the students to read paragraph 1 and think about questions: What would ancient festivals celebrate?What do today’s  festivals celebrate?
Purpose: To get them interested in the topic and prepare for the output---to create their own festivals.
活动3【活动】general reading 
Read the text quickly and find out what festivals are mentioned in each paragraph.
Then check answers with the whole class.
Purpose: To get the students to be aware of the main contents of the passage.
活动4【活动】detailed reading
1. Read about  Festivals of the Dead and fill in the blanks. Pay attention to the choices of the verbs.
2. Read about  Festivals to Honor People and answer two questions.
3. Read about Harvest Festivals and answer the question.
4. Read about Spring Festivals and True or False questions.
Purpose: To get the students to be aware of the main activities in each festival and prepare them for the related languages.
活动5【活动】writing
1. Show them an example of a created festival. Analyze the example writing and summarize what should be considered.
2. Discuss in groups.
3. Share their festivals with the whole class.

On the last day of every month, people will celebrate it and can only do things that will make others happy. In this way, people can have fun with each other and learn about happiness.
