Step 1 A question to lead in the topic What’s your favorite animal and why? There are a lot of cute animals, for example dogs , cats, rabbits ...... Animals are important to humans ; They play an important role in our daily life ; They are our family members; They are our best friends. Step 2 Learning aims 1. To understand the main idea and content of the passage. 2. To learn a new kind of reading skill. 3. To learn to live in harmony with animals. Step 3 Let’s enjoy a video For understanding the passage better, let students enjoy a video which is about the monarch butterfly. Step 4 While-reading Task 1 Fast-reading (1) where are you most likely to find the passage? A.In a scientific research paper about the monarch butterfly’s migration. B.In a popular nature magazine introducing the monarch butterfly. C.In a travel leaflet encouraging people to visit North America. (2)The structure of the passage Divide the passage into 4 parts and tell us the main idea. Task 2 Careful- reading ——Complete the notes with words from the passage Step 5 Learning to learn————Reading skills When you read an unfamiliar word, make sure that you read the whole sentence. Try to work out what type of word it is(noun, adjective, verb, etc.), then use the words before and after to help you guess the meaning. Step 6 Post-reading ————Think and Share What can people do to help protect the endangered animals, like the monarch butterfly? plant more trees; stop polluting rivers; protect the environment; set up nature reserve; ban hunting; ... ... Love animals; love our common world We should show respect to all animals and live in peace with them. Step 7 Homework Write a short passage about your favorite animal after class.
