Louvre Museum or the Louvre is a historic monument in Paris, France. A central landmark of the city, it is located on the right bank of the Seine in the city's 1st district. The museum is housed in the Louvre Palace, originally built as a castle in the late 12th century. It opened on 10 August 1793 with an exhibition of 537paintings. Nowadays, about 38,000objects from prehistory to the 21st century are exhibited over an area of 72,735 square metres. It received millions of visitors each year.
The Louvre Museum in Paris, France, is one of the oldest, largest and most famous art galleries and museums in the world. The Louvre was originally a royal palace, until Louis XIV（14） moved his court to Versailles in 1682. It became a public museum in the late 18th century, and has since built one of the greatest collections of art in the world including da Vinci's Mona Lisa
