Ⅰ. 教材分析与教学理念
This teaching period focuses on students’ understanding, sharing and expressing based on the appreciation for English humor.
This unit introduces students to English humour. This unit concentrates on British humor, namely pun (play on words) and funny short stories. It is necessary for students to find the punchline (the sentence which makes people laugh is called the “punchline” in English humour) in order to understand English humour. This is an opportunity for students to enjoy funny story and they are encouraged to discuss what they find funny or what they may not find funny. One thing to remember is that humour is particular to each culture, so the humour of Britain is similar to that of American, Canada, Australia and New Zealand, but it is certainly very different from Chinese humour. It should be stressed that students are allowed to state their personal preferences in that human is different in each culture and the sense of humor is varied.
It is hoped that students are able to use their sense of humour to find the interesting points in their daily lives and keep positive and optimistic attitude towards life.

The lesson is intended for those Senior One students who are eager to understand English humour and know more about British jokes. So, it is hoped that they will get some inspiration from class. Besides, students do not have a good understanding about cultural differences. Therefore, it is important to provide the students with sufficient materials to train their open-minded attitude towards cultural differences.
Ⅲ. 教学目标分析
By the end of the class, students will be able to:
1. Locate detailed information in listening exercise and finish a writing passage using the
tips in this section. (语言能力)
2. Identify cultural differences in learning English humour. (文化品质)
3. Conduct study by independent thinking and cooperative learning and share opinions with

4. Develop correct value of life and form positive attitude and healthy habits. (情感态度)

Little Robert asked his mother for two cents.“What did you do with the money I gave you yesterday?”“I gave it to a poor old woman,” he answered.
“You’re a good boy,” said the mother proudly.“Here are two cents more. But why are you so interested in the old woman?”“She is the one who sells the candy.”
②A Wrinkle in Time
A little girl got on her grandpa’s lap and said, “Did God make me?” “Yes,” the grandpa replied. “Did God make you too?” “Yes,” the grandpa said.
“Well,” the little girl said, looking at his wrinkles and thinning hair. “He sure is doing a better job nowadays!” By analyzing the two short funny stories, students could understand the definition of punchline—The sentence which makes people laugh is called the “punchline” in
English humour.
Listening Task 1
1) Before listening, look at the exercise below and predict what you think it will be about?
2) Listen to the tape write down the main idea in one sentence.
3) Listen to the story again and answer the questions. Then check your answers with your partner.

c) Why couldn't the thief take away the potatoes?
Extensive listening enables students to have a good command of the structure and get the main idea
quickly.

Analyzing How the story is orginzied?
In a logical order, the situation, what happened and then the punchline.
The step is crucial in the whole lesson, inspiring students to discuss, compare and analyze the contents of the article and enables students to know how to create stories by themselves.
Writing
Think of a funny English or Chinese story and write down the story. Use a logical order, explain the situation, what happened and then give the punchline. Requirements: dialogues and actions should be included in the funny story. Read it through when you have finished checking for mistakes
Read it to your partner and ask for advice
Rewrite your story and put it into a class collection of funny stories
This step serves as a lift after listening exercise. So it is hoped that students can express their ideas based on the structure.

By sharing the funny stories with classmates, students will be able to enjoy different type of funny stores, and in the end make suitable improvements.
