Unit 2 English Poems
I. Analysis of Teaching Material
The content of my lesson is Unit 2 Poems —Warming up and Reading Part. This unit is about English poems. By learning this lesson, students will some basic forms of English poems. (As we all know, reading belongs to input during the process of the language learning.) Therefore, this lesson is in the important position of this unit. II. Analysis of Ss
Ss of Grade Two have a vocabulary of 3000 words. They can use simple words to describe things. But they can’t express themselves perfectly. III. Teaching Aims
According to the new standard curriculum and the syllabus, the teaching aims are as follows
1.Knowledge and ability
At the end of the class, Ss will be able to
learn some simple forms of English poems.
develop their reading abilitiy of skimming and scanning. 2. Process and methods
During the class, Ss will be able to
know the simple forms of English poems.
enhance communication by cooperating with others. 3. Emotion, attitude and value
At the end of the class, Ss will be able to
cultivate appreciation of poetry and the ability of understanding, enjoying and writing poems.
develop a good sense of cooperation IV. Key points and Difficult Points
Based on the requirement of the syllabus. The key points are as follows:
1.Enable Ss to learn about some siple forms of English poetry 2. Develop Ss' reading ability. The difficult points are as follows:
1.To enable Ss' to write their own poems 2. How to develop Ss' reading ability. V. Teaching and Learning Methods
In my opinion, the aim of learning English in the senior high school is to develop the students’ abilities of listening, speaking, reading, writing. To achieve the aim, I will use following teaching and learning methods Communicative Approach(交际教学法)

In my class, I will use blackboard and multimedia. VI. Teaching procedure Step 1: Greeting
T: Class begins! Good morning, boys and girls! S: Good morning, teacher. T: Sit down, please. Step 2: Lead-in
T: First, Let’s enjoy an English poem. Listen carefully and try to guess what the name of the poem is. S:Enjoy the poem.
T: Guys, what’ the name? S: 再别康桥
T: Yes, Saying goodbye to Cambridge again. Is that beautiful? S: Yes.
T: Today, go with me into a garden of poem and enjoy them. Are you ready? Step 3: While-reading Task 1: Fast-reading
T: Now, take out your book and turn to Page 10. Read the whole passage as quickly as possible and try to answer the questions. How many forms of English poems are mentioned in the passage? What are they? S: (Read the whole passage)
T:Guys, have you finished? How many? S: Five.
T: What are they?
S: Nursery rhymes, List poems, Cinquain, Haiku and Tang poems. T: Ok, now let’s see them in detail. Task 2: Nursery rhymes
T: Do you still remember the Nursury rhymes that you have learnt in your childhood?
S: 两只老虎and so on.
T: Ok, now let’s enjoy an English nursery rhyme. Watch carefully and try to imitate it.(Play the flash)
T: Ok, look at the screen. This is the nursery poem we just saw. Let’s find its characteristic together.
T: Can you find something in common in these sentences. S: They have the same part. T: Read it together.
S: Papa’s doing to buy you. If that... T: Yes. We can call it as repetition.
T: Look at this poem again. This time, look at the end of the sentences. Read them out.
S: word, mockingbird,sing, ring... T: Yes. We can call it rhyme.
T: This time, let’s read it toghther. You can read like this. Hush, little baby, don’t say
a word, papa’s going to buy you a mockingbird... with your hands clapping. T: Let’s try it toghther.
T: So we can conclude the characteristics as 3’R’s. S: Repetition, rhyme and rhythm. Task 3: List poems
T: There are also some poems that list things. We can call it as list poems.
T: Look at Poem B. Read carefully and try to find the 3’R’s (Repetition, rhyme and rhythm) in the poem S: find out the 3’R’s
T: Who can read this poem to make us feel the strong rhythm. S: Read.
T: let’s read it toghther. Your hand? T: What are listed in the poem? S: Some ridiculous things Task 4: Cinquain
T: Look at the two poems. Can you tell me the characteristics of these two poems? How many lines are here? S: Five
T: Yes. So cinquain is a kind of poem with five lines. Let’s see what are listed in each line.
T: The first line: Brother, summer. We can call it as the subject of this poem.now try to find what are listed in each line?
S: Talk with partner and answer the question. Task 5: Haiku
T: This kind of poem is called Haiku, the red line are syllable. So how many syllables are here in Haiku. S: Seventeen.
T: Yes. So remember the characteristic of Haiku is made up of 17 syllables. T: Look at the picture? What are in the picture? S: a butterfly on the blossom.
T: So we can say Haiku use a minimum of word to descibe a clear picture. Task 6: Tang poems
T: This is an English version of a Tang poem. Who can read it for us? Listen carefully and try to guess its name. S: Read the poem. T: What’s the name? S: 静夜思
T: You can see thay all rhyme. Which version would you like? The Chinese one or the English one?why? S:List the reasons
Step 3: Competition
T: Up to now, we have learnt all these forms of English poems. Now let’s have a competition. We have four groups here. Group 1,2,3 and 4. Choose one topic you like.
Group one, which one would you like to choose? S: I would like to choose... T: Your task is to...
Step 6: Inquiry-based activity
T: we have learnt some English poems and make some poems. Now let’s translate an English poem together. S: Translate
T: There are a lot of versions of Chinese translation. Let’s enjoy it toghther
T: In my opinion, Chinese is the most beautiful language in the world. So we,as a chinese, we should learn English well and make it a tool to let foreigners know our language, our culture and our country. Step 5: Homework
