Ⅰ. Teaching objectives: 1. Knowledge objectives:
1) All students know the types of five simple poems: nursery rhyme, list poem, cinquain, haiku and Tang poem and get the specific characteristics of poems through reviewing. 2) All students learn proper ways to communicate with others by group work.
3) Most students know the pronunciation and remember the meaning and spelling of new
words: emotion, nursery rhyme, bride, bridegroom, convey, tease, rhyme, flexible, endless, contradictory, sorrowful, be made up of, run out of, in particular by individual and group work. 2. Ability objectives:
1)All students know the skills to remember words by the use of rhyming words.
2)Most students can make up some correct sentences using the following new words and phrases: emotion, bride, bridegroom, convey, tease, flexible, endless, sorrowful, be made up of, run out of by group work.
3)Most students can communicate with others about their thoughts about the appreciation of some simple poems.
4) Most students can write a poem through group work. 3. Emotion objectives:
1). Students will be interested in word study through many kinds of interesting pictures, exercises and games.
2). Students will be aware of the importance of cooperation and teamwork and the fact that it is not that difficult to enjoy and write a simple poem.
3). Students will be interested in enjoying and writing some simple poems, and they will also realize poetry is life filled with beauty and joy and enjoy poetic life. Ⅱ. Teaching important points:
1. To teach students the new words and phrases by many kinds of interesting pictures, exercises and games and teach students how to use them correctly.
2. To lead students to understand how to appreciate and create a simple poem. Ⅲ. Teaching difficult points:
1. How to develop students’ skills needed in daily communication.
2. How to help students fully understand the characteristics of five simple poems and the skills to appreciate and write a poem. Ⅳ. Teaching measures: 1. Brainstorming

Step 1 Lead-in
Have a free talk with students and invite students to listen to a nursery rhyme “Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star” and follow the beat. Twinkle, twinkle, little star,

After listening, the teacher will lead students to find out the rhyme of each sentence and help them realize that like lyrics, the rhyme is also the feature of the poems. Then the teacher can lead in the subject of today——poems. Step 2 Word introduction
Introduce some new words and phrases to students by showing them some interesting pictures in a short story. Step 3 Meaning check

Step 5 Practice
1) Picture-word matching
Help students review the new words and phrases by inviting students to match one relative picture in the story with one word or phrase learnt today. After recalling all the relative words, they will be asked to follow the teacher to read to be familiar with the pronunciation.
2). Guess what the word or phrase is. (group competition)
Divide students into groups , and invite students to recommend a boy and a girl who has the best memory in the class to come to the platform to guess according to the description or the body language of their group members or of their competitors.
3).Fill in the blanks using the words learnt today.

The teacher will present one picture on the screen and guide students to create a poem together by inviting students to brainstorm some proper words. The teacher will write down the most wonderful ones on the blackboard to create the poem of the students and also offer another poem prepared ahead using some new words learnt today to help students to understand the best way to remember is to use. Step 7 Summary
Poetry is a garden which sends off fragrance. Poetry is life which is filled with beauty and warmth. With so many beautiful words and phrases, with so many different forms of poetry to choose from, it is easily than you might think and certainly worth a try in your daily life, Please do remember: to learn is to use! At the end of the class, the teacher will read to music four lines of a famous poem to end this class.
