Teaching plan
Teaching objectives:
1. Students can be more confident and learn to appreciate others by talking about their own abilities.
2. Students can improve their reading strategies:skimming and scanning.
3. Students can learn from the reading passage and know how to write such an ad.

Teaching procedures:
Step 1: Greeting and lead in.
Show students some pictures of my idol Wang Leehom and ask “What can he do?” to review the key sentence patterns”-What can he do? - He can ...” and the phrases like “play the violin, play the guitar...”.
Step 2: Before reading.
Students work in groups of four, ask and answer ”What can you do?” and find out who is versatile in each group. Remind students to take some notes and use the following sentences to make a simple report.

Step 3: While reading.
1. Students listen to the three descriptions about Peter, Alan and Ma Huan, find out their abilities and likes and fill in the blanks.

2. Students read each ad quickly and find out who may be interested in each ad to practice students’ reading strategy: scanning.
3. Students read each ad again and write a title for each ad. Students need to practice catching the main idea by skimming.
4. Students read the ads and answer questions. In this task, students need to find out some detailed information by using the strategy: scanning.
Step 4: After reading.
1. Students think about what information should be mentioned in such ads while listening to the three ads.
2. Students work in groups of four, choose an ad title and make a poster. Make sure everyone finishes part of the poster. Students who is good at drawing can be asked to draw for the poster; students who has a good handwriting can be asked to write the poster; others can think about the content of the ad. Each group leader need to show their poster in front of the whole class.
The following useful sentences will be given: We want/need... for... Can you ...?/Do you like...?
Are you free ...?/Are you busy ...?/Do you have time ...? Call ... at .../ My telephone number is ... Email ... at ... / My email address is ...
Step 5: Homework.
Students need to write an ad and ask for help with an event at our school.
