Pre-task preparations 1. Free talk: Discuss the topic “winter” with partners, using a mind map to help students. T: Do you like winter? Why or why not? S1: I like winter because is beautiful and cold. We can put on new clothes. S2: I like winter too because we can go traveling. 2. Listen to an English song. T: I like winter just like most of you. There is a winter holiday. We can have one-month rest. There is also a special festival—Spring Festival in winter. Families and friends can get together. But winter in 2020 is very unusual. Do you know why? Let’s listen to an English song. Then show the song to students. T: After listening to this song, can you tell me why the winter in 2020 is unusual? Ss: Because of COVID-19, we can’t go outside during the winter holiday. While-task procedures 1. Tell the background of the winter in 2020. Then introduce the new virus—COVID-19. (1) What does COVID-19 stand for? (2) Where does it come from? (3) How does it hurt human being? 2. There are many changes in our lives because of COVID-19. Talk about the differences between the past and now. |
