This module is about Great people and Great Inventions in Ancient China. Such a topic is closely related to students’ life .because they learn something about them through history and Chinese class, this it is not difficult to arouse their interest in learning this lesson. This class is the second period of the module. It plays an very important role in the whole unit. Our students are familiar with the names of some Great People in Ancient China, such as Confucius , Mencius ,Mozi and so on .but they often don’t know about their teachings ,and How did these philosophers inherit(继承),develop and spread their ideas and teachings. At the same time , our students’ English level is very poor ,so most students are not active in the class, and some students don’t like English. So the teacher should try to encourage the students to express their ideas bravely and let them work in pairs to learn how to introduce a great person and share with their classmates. 教 学 目 标
The main Task:
1.The students will be helped to improve their Reading ,writing and speaking abilities through all kind of activities and obtain much more information about the three Philosophers of Ancient China .
2. Help the students to build a mind map about the passage, which will help them to learn to introduce a great person to others. Language Focus:
In this period ,the students will learn about the following words and phrases: equal, importance, philosopher, philosophy, teaching, thinker, kindness, order, principle, position, stress, resign, adviser, influential, love, honesty, justice, be at war with bring up, etc. Language skills:
In this period, the students will be guided to learn to introduce Great People to others , meanwhile, after learning, they will improve their speaking and writing abilities.
Learning Strategies:
1.Congnitive Strategy: In this period, with the help of some pictures and a short video, the students will know much more information about the three Great people.
2. Communication Strategy: In this period, the students will be organized to cooperate with others to express their opinions about philosophers
3.Adjusting and Controlling Strategy: The students will have a chance to make self-assessment by learning the principles of the three famous ancient philosophers, especially how to describe a great person. Teaching aims:
a. To make the students know some information about the 3 philosophers b. How to describe a famous person in Ancient China.
c. Enable the students to use their own words about philosophers. d. Master the key words and expressions Emotional attitude and Values:
The students will have a sense of being proud of our ancient China, Chinese culture has a long history and rich heritage(遗产),so we should inherit ,develop and spread it.

1.How to help the students understand the text exactly.
2.Build a mind map about the passage which can help the students to write a famous person.
3.Learn the principles of the three famous Ancient China. Difficulties:
1.Understand how did Mozi and Mencius inherit and spread Confucius’ teachings .

Step1 Warming Up 1.Duty report

2.Lead-in (1)Play a video
Let’s enjoy a video ,Then the students will think about a question and have a free talk
(2)Show some pictures about the three philosophers and ask the students how they know about them
The students will watch the video and find out “Why is Confucius Institute so popular in foreign countries?”
The students will have a brain-storm to think about something about Confucius, Mencius ,Mozi To attract the students’ attention quickly and lead into the topic “Great People and Great Inventions of Ancient China.”
Step2 Presentation 1.Prediction
Ask the students to guess “what aspects will be talked about in the passage” 2.Scanning
Read Para1 and find out some information 3.Careful-reading
Read para2 and Para3,Then ask the students to fill in the banks about Mencius and Mozi
The students will scan para1,Then fill in the blanks
Fill in the blanks and find out the outline of the paragraph.
Enable the abilities of students to guess the main idea of whole passage
The students will not read the text word by word ,just find out the key words
To practice the students’ skill of find information in the passage.
Step3: Extending
(1)Draw a mind map of the passage
Find out the author’s writing clue The mind map will help the students to introduce a great person to others with their
own words.
(2)Think about some questions
a. What do their teachings stress? b. How did Mozi inherit and develop the teachings of Confucius?
c. How did Mencius inherit and develop the teachings of Confucius?
(3)Group Discussion
What’s the influence of teachings on the modern world? What should we do? IV:Post-reading 1. After learning,the students will guess the
meaning of the sentence and find out whose ideas they are 2. Group Discussion
The teacher show some pictures and ask them to disscuss which idea they think is the most important 3. The teacher share the idea “Peace is the most important thing”
4.Enjoy a song <we are the world>
They students will try their best to find out the meaning of them
The students wil disscuss with their parters and share the ideas together
