Analysis of teaching material
The review lesson combines Book 3 unit 2 Healthy eating and Book 6 unit 3 A healthy life together and aims at analyzing both physical and mental health problems.
Analysis of students
My students are senior three from normal class. They have already learned the new words of this lesson, but most of them lack the ability to express their understanding of the topic: Health.
Teaching Aims
(1)Knowledge aims:
1.Get Students to expand some useful new words and expressions about health. 2.Let Students learn about physical health from listening practice. 3.Let Students learn about mental health from reading practice. (2)Ability aims :
1.Develop Students’ listening and reading ability.
2. Enable Students to know about ways of solving mental health issues. (3)Emotional aims:
1.Enable students to learn to develop a healthy lifestyle. 2.Develop Students’ sense of cooperative learning.
Teaching important and difficult points:
1.Let Students know about the importance of both physical and metal health. 2.Have Students learn different listening and reading skills. 3.Enable Students to know about ways of dealing with health issues.
Teaching methods
Task Based language teaching and cooperation (Group work).
Teaching Procedure
Step One Homework feedback Check the students’ homework (mind map) Step Two Pair work
Let the students share their daily lifestyles to others through the two questions. Step Three Listening practice First listening
Listen and choose the right answers. Second listening
Listen again and complete the mind map of the husband’s problem: What---Why---How
(The listening material is about a person’s physical health issue) Step Four Reading practice
The students read the passage and fill in the blanks with right sentences. The teacher will ask the students to explain why they choose this answer and encourage them to put forward different opinions.
(The reading material is about the mental health) Step Five Group work
In groups, the students discuss which ways will they choose if they are suffering from mental health problems and what other ways can they think of. Then, the group leader should state their group opinions. Step Six Homework
1. Improve your mind map about the topic of health.
2. Write a passage about your understanding about health based on your group work.
