Teaching Content: Unit 4 I used to be afraid of the dark.
Teaching Objects: students of Junior Three
Teaching Duration: 40 minutes
Teaching Aims :
At the end of the class, the students are able to
1. Recall the words of appearance and personality before.
2. Use the sentence pattern—”used to do”: declarative sentence, and negative sentence .
3. Think about the changes and treat them rightly.

Teaching methods: Task-based and Communicative Approach
Teaching aids: multi-media, blackboard
Teaching Procedures:
Step1: Lead-in Talk about the teacher’s appearance and personality to recall the words.
Step2: Review the words of appearance and personality.
Check answers in groups and two students write the answer on the
Blackboard.

Step 3: Group work—Look at the photos of Fu Yuanhui and use as many words as possible to describe her in appearance and personality. Two groups show their answer.
Step 4: Review the new words. Check previewing homework together.
Choose the right pictures for the new words.
1.
He was humorous, and he often makes us laugh.
2. It is very quiet in the classroom because everyone is silent.
3. It is helpful for us to do sports.
Step 5: Introduce the sentence pattern—”used to do” .
Play guessing game.
Look at the photos of people, describe them(What was he/she like?),
and then introduce the sentence pattern—”used to do” (declarative
sentences).
Step 6: Time machine. Go back to the childhood.
①Look at students’ photos in their childhood and describe them by
using “used to do”.
②Group work—Look at Ke Nan’s photos of childhood and adult and
use as many sentences with “used to do” as possible.
Step 7: Introduce “didn’t use to do”:
①Look at photos and talk about them by using “didn’t use to do”.
②Group work—Look at Doctor Li’s photos in the past and now , and
use as many sentences with “didn’t use to do” as possible.
Step 8: Listen and match the photos with the person.
