Material analysis
This class covers the content in Unit 7 of Book II for students of Grade Seven. The lesson makes use of the real-life birthday materials to present and associate the three topics in this unit. It helps students consolidate the words about months, dates, cardinal numbers, the past forms of verbs. It also helps them apply the expressions about birthday, abilities and sentences in present past tense. The aim accords with New English Curriculum whose goal is to put English into application, making students finally be able to produce a complete writing by lots of former language put-in tasks, including listening, speaking, reading. The whole lesson refers to different kinds of activities and games as well, such as dialog-making, picture-predicting and word-flashing etc.
Teaching aims and demands 1. Knowledge objects
After this class, Ss will be able to:
1).master words about months, dates, cardinal numbers, the regular and irregular past forms of verbs:

3). apply the expressions about abilities with modal verbs “can” and ”could” and their negatives forms and sentences in present past tense:
(1)When she was three, she could play the piano a little but she couldn’t write at all.
(2)When she was five, she could dance just a little.
(3)She can do it well now. But she couldn’t do it at all in the past. 4). consolidate the sentences in the present past tense
(1 —Did you sing a song at the party? —Yes, I did./ No, I didn’t. —What did… do? —She danced. (2We brought many presents for him.
