Section A
I Material Analysis
This is the first period of Topic 3 in Unit 7. In 1a, Jane and Ben are talking about what their friends did at Kangkang’s birthday party, therefore to review how to talk about the experiences in the past and to know, be familiar with and master how to describe the birthday party and what the friends did at the party. Then the students are continually exposed to Past Simple Tense and the grammar rules of Past Simple Tense.
II Teaching Aims 1. Knowledge aims:
To know how to read and use the new words and phrases:
magic tricks, kung fu , yesterday: have a good time, just now.
To know about how to express the experiences in the
past:

Did you sing a song at the party? –Yes, I did./ No, I didn’t. •
–Did he/she play the piano? –Yes, he/she did./ No, he/she didn’t. • – He/She didn’t dance.

–What did Sally do? –She danced.
To be able to master and use the rules of verbs’ past form (1)直接加ed;
(2)以不发音的e结尾,加d;
(3)末尾只有一个辅音字母的重读闭音节词,先双写这个辅音字母,再加ed;
(4)结尾是辅音字母+y的动词,先变y 为i再加ed。 To know about the pronunciation rules: 1 在清辅音后面 读/t/ 2 在浊辅音和元音后面 读/d/ 3 在/t/ /d/音后面 读/ ɪd / 2. Skill aims

Important Points: to master the sentence patterns of expressing the experiences in the past; to be able to master and use the rules of verbs’ past form;

Watch a video and lead in the topic of Kangkang’s birthday party.
2 Preparation
Brainstorm the activities we have learned and learn the new ones with the help of pictures.
3 Presentation Act and guess
Miss Wei went to the party. Guess what she did there. The teacher acts and students guess by asking. Then some students go to the blackboard and other students guess. Learn and practice the sentence patterns:

–Yes, I did./ No, I didn’t. –Did he/she play the piano? • –Yes, he/she did./ No, he/she didn’t. •
– He/She didn’t dance.
Listen and match.
Listen to the conversation between Jane and Ben of 1a and match what they did at the party.
Ask and answer.
Read the sentences of what they did at the party and then ask and answer in pairs:
A:What did......do at the party yesterday? B:He/She...... Practice and conclude
Introduce the Past Simple Tense. Then encourage the students to try to write the verbs’ past form and conclude the grammar rules. Explain the changing rules. Ask students to read the verbs of past form. Then conclude and explain the pronunciation rules of past form.
Do exercises to strengthen. 4 Production
Read 1a after the tape and make a report about Kangkang’s birthday party. What did they do ?
