Analysis of learners
Having accumulated a certain amount of vocabulary, with basic proficiency in reading skills, senior two students in Class 21 should not be content with some direct and easy questions. Instead, they should have the ability to summarize messy information, make accurate guesses based on what they have already learned, understand the author’s attitude, have their own thinking and express their own opinions in English about the topic.
Analysis of the Teaching Material Teaching content The selected reading material is taken from Lesson 2 Cloning---Where Is It Leading Us of unit2, Module8. It provides us with definition and two major uses of cloning, the procedure of the cloning of Dolly the sheep as well as the problems and advantages of cloning. Teaching objectives Knowledge: Ss will be able to describe the definition, major uses, problems and advantages of cloning. Abilities: (1) Ss will be able to comprehend four writing styles: narration, argumentation, exposition and instruction; (2) Ss will be able to use reading skills like scanning to find
detailed information about cloning;
(3) Ss will be able to think and express critically based on provided information. Moral:
Ss will be able to master knowledge about cloning and realize the problems and advantages of cloning.
Important points (1) Ss will be able to master the writing style of the text; (2) Ss will be able to master definition and two major uses of cloning, the procedure of the cloning of Dolly the sheep as well as the problems and advantages of cloning.
(3) Ss will be able to compare and describe the advantages and problems of cloning and express individual opinions about the topic.
