Analyses of the textbook and teaching materials
Diary writing is the second unit of the textbook. The aims of this unit are as follows: familiarize students with the basic format and style of English diaries; enable students to use different types of sentences and transitional words and phrases in their diaries; help students to express their feelings with the help of adjectives in their diaries.
The reading materials adapted from Diary Of A Wimpy Kid are centered on the trick Rodrick played on his younger brother Greg. These three diaries are written from Rodrick, Greg and their father's point of view respectively about the same incident. Students will be able to notice how to describe the same incident in different ways through reading these diaries. Description of students
Senior One students have already learned nominal clause and attributive clause, but they may not be aware of using them in their writing. They have already got the hang of the format of Chinese diary which is quite similar to the English one. Besides, they are not only interested in the story the reading materials are based on but also familiar with the writing topic. Teaching methods

1. Give students two clues and ask them to guess what the teacher is talking about.

Step 2 Listening (2 minutes)
1. Play the recording and ask students to listen and complete the first diary (Rodrick’s diary). 2. Ask students to answer the following two questions:

Step 3 Reading ( 10 minutes)
1. Ask students to read the second diary (Father's diary) and fill in the blanks with proper transitional words and phrases. Read Father's diary and complete the diary with proper transitional words and phrases.
Get students to realize the importance of transitional words and phrases in diary writing.
2. Ask students to read the third diary (Greg's diary) and circle all the words that can show Greg's feelings.
3. Ask students to answer the following questions.
