The first Period of Unit 1 Cultural Relics
Teaching Aims:
1. Students will have an accurate understanding of the structure of the text and have a clear idea of the content of the text.
2. Students will be able to comprehend the history of the Amber Room.
3. Students will be able to think critically about the problem of how to protect the cultural relics in their daily life.

Textbook, Multi-media, Blackboard
Teaching key & difficult points:
1. How to get the main idea of each paragraph. 2. How to sort out the clue of this passage.
Teaching procedures: Step 1: Lead-in
Show some pictures of the cultural relics of Hainan as well as the cultural relics at home and abroad to arouse the students’ interest and then ask them one question: What a cultural relic is? Suggested answers:
A cultural relic is something that • survived for a long time.
• tells people the culture or history about the past of its place.
Step 2: Pre-reading
Introduce the topic of text by recalling the famous fairy tale ‘Hansel and Gretel’. The house in this fairy tale
• is made of bread, bacon, cookie and ice cream. • is decorated with candy.
Step 3 Reading 1) Skimming
① Ask the students to skim the whole passage and then find out the main idea. ② Find out the characteristic of the passage. ---What is the writing type of this passage?
