Reading (Section B)
I. Teaching goals
Based on the requirements of the new curriculum standard, the analysis of the teaching material and the students, the teaching goals are as follows:
1. Language abilities:
(1) To learn and understand target language.
(2) Be able to use the reading skills, especially, scanning. (3) To communicate with learned knowledge. 2. Cultural characters:
(1) To arouse students’ awareness of protecting animals. (2) To take actions to protect animals and environment. 3. Thinking traits:
(1) Students can learn to protect animals. (2) Students can express their ideas reasonably. II. Teaching important and difficult points 1. Master the target language in this period.
2. Master the reading strategy---scanning, to find specific information and understand the passage thoroughly. III. Teaching methods
1. Communicative teaching method 2. Task-based teaching method. 3. The student-centered method. IV. Teaching aids
The multimedia teaching aids. V. Teaching procedures
Step1. Leading in and Warming up

1. Show a video about some animals and then ask the students to say what animals they can see.
2. Show some pictures about pandas to teach the new words . Step 2 Pre-reading
Ask the students to look at the picture in the reading passage to predict the main idea. Step 3 While-reading
1. Guide the students to skim the passage to see if their predictions are right and conclude the general idea of the whole passage.
2. Help the students to get the main idea of each paragraph and conclude the main ideaof the whole passage. And help the student to get the first reading skill---skimming.
3. Presentthe second reading skill---scanning to get the specific information.
4. Use the word bank to help them. After learning the new words, they will have a quick test.
5. Scan the passage and find out some numbers and find what the numbers mean.
6. Scan the passage and try to fill in the chart. Remind them to take notes. And then let them have a discussion in groups and complete the task. Step 4 Post-reading
Divide the students into four groups and give different groups different tasks. Group 1 Acting
Ask the students to act out the pandas according to Para.1. Group 2 Interview
Ask the students to make an interview according to Para.2. Group 3 Pandas’ speech
Suppose the students are pandas and ask them to make a speech according to Para.3. Group 4 Posters

Ask the students to make a poster about how to save endangered pandas with their slogans, drawings and so on. according to Para.4. 2. Play a video to arouse students’ awareness of protecting animals. Step 5 Summary &Homework
1. Summarize the target language and some reading skills.
2. Ask the students to write an article about one of the world’s most endangered animals. VI. Blackboard design
VII. Teaching reflection
During the whole class, the teacher acts as a facilitator to arouse students’ interests and curiosity of study so that students can obtain knowledge by themselves. The activities are from easy to challenging, so students from different levels can learn and improve. The teaching aims can be achieved basically. I hope most students can “read for learning and read for thinking”.
