A multi-media computer Ⅲ. Teaching Procedures: Step 1 Greetings
Greet the students as usual. Step 2 Leading in
1. Ask the students if they like riddles. And ask them to guess a kind of animal---pandas according to the teacher’s description. 2. The teacher describes : They are very big and live in the sea. They eat small fish and other sea life for food. They can jump high out of the water.
Ask the students to guess what kind of animals they are. Some students may say they are fish or sharks. Some say they are whales. 3. Ask the students: Do you want to know more about whales? Let’s enjoy a video about whales and answer the four questions. What do they look like? Where do they live? What do they eat? What can they do?
After watching the video, ask the students to answer them. Step 3 Discussion
Show some pictures of whales and ask the students: Why are they becoming endangered?
Can you guess the reasons why they are becoming endangered? Have them discuss the reasons. Then ask them to say what they think. We know whales are in great danger, how can we do to protect them?
Have them discuss the ways to protect them and list them. Step 4 Pre-writing
1. Have the students read 3a together, and give them several minutes to fill in the chart.
2. Work in pairs to present their conversations. Step 5 While writing
We have learnt a lot about whales, now China Daily wants you to write a letter about whales to encourage more people to protect them. Use the information in 3a and the mind map.
First, give the students five or seven minutes to write a passage. After they finish writing their compositions, the students exchange their compositions and correct them. Then, the teacher selects several compositions and shows them on the blackboard. Next, ask the students to read them together and correct the compositions. Finally, the teacher comments on several selected student compositions. Step 6 After writing
Ask the students what a poster is. There are all kinds of posters about animals. In addition to writing essays to call on people to protect whales, we can also tell them to protect whales by making posters. Tell them: There is only one earth in the world. We should save the whales, the animals and the earth. We should do these from ourselves. Step 7 Homework:
1. Surf the Internet and find out more about the endangered animals. 2. Make a poster of the animals
