教学目标
1.To help all the students develop the reading skills---how to locate information and how to understand the meaning behind the words
2.To help students to develop the awareness of cross-cultural communication--- to learn about some basic facts of American country music and its cultural symbol
3.To provide a platform for students to share their favorite music and their feelings about the music
2新设计
1. Ss are expected to preview the text and learn the new words by themselves and T just checks their understanding of the words at the beginning of the class.
2. Ss are expected to gather some information about American country music before the class.
3. T helps Ss understand country music by presenting pictures, videos and especially audios. What's more, Ss are expected to learn and sing some country songs.
3学情分析
Most of the students in my class are high-levelled. It's easy for them to understand the text and locate information. However, they are not familiar with American country music and it is not easy for them to understand its cultural meaning. Ss are expected to do the following previewing work:1)They need to get online some information about American country music and learn to sing a piece of their favorite country music song. 2)They are required to learn the pronunciation of the new words by themselves. 3) They need to finish the previewing work on Exercise Book.
4重点难点
How to understand the theme of country music, especially the “good old days” and “belonging to a group”.

活动1【导入】Free talk
T asks a question “What can make our life different?” Ss may offer different answers including “music”.
活动2【讲授】Previewing work checking
T shows the paraphrase and Ss say the word as quickly as possible. (Number 6 and 7 are not included in Exercise Book. T adds them to check Ss' understanding of new words.)

T leads Ss to get the main idea of the text by referring to the title and the picture
活动4【讲授】While-reading
1.Read the whole passage to get the main idea of each paragraph
2.Read (Listen)the first paragraph and fill in the chart
3.Read aloud (by themselves) the second paragraph and answer three questions.
1). Where is country music from?
It is from the southern states of American. (Nashville, Tennessee) (Line 9-10)
T shows a map of the US to tell Ss where Nashville is.
2). Is country traditional or pop music? It is traditional music. (Line 9)
3). What is country music about? Laughter, friends, family, and the beauty of nature and the countryside. (Line15)
*T asks Ss to listen to a country song named “Take me home, country roads”.
*Ss write down the missing words.
*Ss get the theme of song by analyzing the lyrics and enjoy some pictures of countryside in Virginia.
*T shows another two country songs and Ss get their theme”friend” and “laughter/ happiness”
*T leads Ss to understand what the “good old days” are and discuss a question from a student “ What will good news be like?”
4.Read(One student reads it) the third paragraph, answer the questions and check the fact sheet on page 63
1)What’s Sarah’s dream?
2)What will Sarah probably do in Nashville?
3)What can Sarah see in the museum?
* T presents a question from a student
* T answers the question by showing a VCR
活动5【活动】Post-reading
T asks Ss to sing their favorite song and talk about it. A mind-map and an example are offered.
*Ss get ready for it and then give a live performance
*T shares a saying about music: Life would be a mistake without music. 没有音乐,生命便是没有价值的(Nietzsche尼采)
活动6【作业】Homework
Level A: 1) Learn to sing a country music song. 2) Finish Exercise 1 in Self Check on p64 in the textbook.
Level B: 1) Write a short passage about your favorite country music song. 2) Finish Exercise 2 in Self Check p64 in the textbook.
