Christmas is as important as the Spring Festival while most of Chinese students do not know its original and details. To some extent, students fell struggle with Christmas information when they are working on comprehension reading. In this case, Christmas should be introduced in Spoken English Class to help students have a clear concept on this. Teaching aims
1. Introduce the background of Christmas to students.
2. Help students know more details about Christmas with pictures. Teaching strategies

Teaching procedure
Stage 1 Warm up and lead in.
Teacher: What’s the most important festival in China?(Show some pictures.)
Students: The Spring Festival.
Teacher: Let’s enjoy a video about the Spring Festival.
Teacher and students: Make a conclusion about the Spring Festival. Teacher: What’s the most important festival in western countries? Student: Christmas
Teacher: Today we are going go learn something about Christmas Stage 2 Presentation
Christmas is the birthday of Jesus Christ .Jesus was the son of God. He came to the world to help the poor people.
Teacher: Let’s enjoy some pictures about Christmas.
Teacher: What do people usually wear on that day? Students: Christmas hats
Teacher: Do you like it? I will give you a surprise.(The teacher give each student a Christmas hat as a present, the students should keep the hats on their hats the whole class, don’t take them off.) Teacher: Stand up and sing a Christmas song. Stage 3
How to celebrate Christmas?
Teacher: Before Christmas Day ,what do people do? Discuss in a group and take notes
Students: Each group choose one student to stand up and make a report. Teacher: On Christmas Eve ,what do people do? Discuss in a group and take notes
Students: Each group choose one student to stand up and make a report. Teacher: On the morning of Christmas Day ,what do people do? Discuss in a group and take notes
Students: Each group choose one student to stand up and make a report. (After making a report, the teacher give each group a present and the present should be shared)
Teachers: Enjoy a video and make a conclusion about Christmas.
Stage 4 Task One
1. Each student has a card to make a Christmas card, which is popular in western countries. Students can experience this activity with group
members with great joy and fun. The can draw some beautiful pictures and write down the best wishes. The best one will be chosen to show for everyone.
Stage 5 Task Two
1. Ss have ten minutes to make Christmas cards, where they can draw anything they like.
2. Ss show their Christmas cards in front of the classroom, and talk about
the picture in English which should be no less than five sentences.
Stage 6 Summarize what Ss have learnt and some expressions about Christmas.
Stage 7 Share happiness and pleasure with teachers and friends.
Students can give Christmas cards to their friends, teachers or parents as gifts to share happiness, to feel the pleasure from exotic western festival. Teaching introspection
1. Students have a clearer comprehension on Christmas and feel confident on the topic Christmas after learning this chapter.
2. Creating a happy classroom atmosphere and attracting students’ interest to try.
