Student analysis
Ss in this class are from parallel class. They are energetic and like playing games in class. They’ve learnt something about phonetic symbol, but they easily forget for lack of practice. Ss often make spelling mistakes because of lacking phonics knowledge and spelling skills. Ss have got familiar with the topic “season”. What’s more, they are able to recite the passage The four seasons.
Teaching material analysis
The teaching material is from Oxford English 7A, Module 2 Unit 4 Speaking. The 3 diphthongs and 3 consonants are commonly seen in word-spelling teaching and the topic “season” ,with which the Ss are familiar because it is related to our daily life.
Aims
1.Knowledge aims
(1) Students are able to acquire the pronunciation of 3 diphthongs /ei/, /ai/, /ɔi/, /m/, /n/, /ŋ/ and 3 consonants /m/, /n/, /ŋ/,and the letter combination, words and sentences related to these six phonetics..
(2) Ss are able to correctly use adjectives and the sentence pattern “It is adj to do…”to describe seasons verbally.
2. Ability aims
(1) Students are basically able to recognize some simple words which contain the 3 diphthongs /ei/, /ai/, /ɔi/ and the 3 consonants /m/, /n/, /ŋ/.
(2) Students are able to talk about seasons in the first person and the third person.
3. Emotion aims (1) Enjoy the beauty of seasons.
(2) Cultivate Ss’ group consciousness.
Important points 1. The sound and the form of the 3 diphthongs /ei/, /ai/, /ɔi/ and the 3 consonants /m/, /n/, /ŋ/.

4.Speak up (15 mins)
1.Draw a mind-map, ask:When we talk about season,what aspects can you think of ? 2.Word guessing game. 3.Give out Handout 2 4.Ask the Ss to talk about their favourite seasons in pairs, with the help of handout 1 and then present.
5.Guide the Ss to interview one classmate or teacher and let the Ss present.
1.Answer and draw the mind-map. 2.Join the game. 3.Talk about favourite season with seatmate and then present in class.
4.Interview one classmate or teacher then present in class. Review the topic and useful expressions of this unit.
5.Summary (1 min) Sum up the total points of each group.
