People around us
Reading is the best food of our soul.In this unit ,students learn something about their relatives ,friends and teachers by their jobs,appearance and character. Reading is one of the best ways of teaching our students to describe characters. Therefore, this lesson plays a key role in arousing the students’interest in reading ,improving their reading abilities, helping them to be more active in our class and at last be more positive in their daily life.
I.The analysis of the teaching material
1.In the text ,students study some adjectives about characters. 2.Students describe persons using the adjectives.
II.The analysis of the learners
1. The students of Grade Eight have the ability of finish the task. 2.Most students are eager to take part in the activities,but they have some difficulties.Some need some help.
3.They want to describe their relatives,friends and teachers by learning this text .
III.The analysis of teaching aims
1.Languages items:
Read and understand some words and expressions.
Learn how to describe characters’ appearance ,jobs and
hobbies.
2. Abilities items:
Teach students to grasp the skills of skimming,scanning and summing up.
3. Moral items:
We should find others’ advantages and learn from others.

Step One : Warming up Step Two : Lead in
Let ss watch the cartoon between Hi and Lo,then answer
and correct the questions. 1.Where are Hi and Lo? 2.What are they doing ?
3. Did Lo understand what Hi meant?
Let ss understand the meaning of” stars”.Then the teacher gives some pictures about “stars”,they may be famous persons, let students describe them with some suitable adjectives and the reasons of loving them. Step Three: Pre-Reading
Activity 1: Look at the pictures and the titles of the three
articles,then finish the questions.Let ss learn about the whole text.

While-reading :
Activity 2: Listen to the recording about the three persons,
then fill in the blanks. At last,correct the answers.

Aim: Train the students the ability of grasping the important messages.

3:Fill in a form about three persons and then let students choose one character to introduce in the front briefly to train their spoken English.

Activity 4: Make an interview .Le ss play as a reporter or an
interviewee to ask and answer about the three persons in the text or their relives ,friends and teachers.
Aim: Train students’abilities of using the information they get to solve problems. This activity will encourage the students to use their own words and thoughts to express their ideas.
Step Five: Homework
1.Remember the new words and expressions. 2.Describe a character about his or her job,appearance and character.

Most students can grasp the teaching aims and can be
active in the class activities.But some of them may need my help and I will help them as much as possible. At the same time,I think the students’activities are not enough,I should involve in the students’discussions instead of watching them beside.
