Teaching Design
I.Teaching Aims.
1.Knowledge goal:
key words: overwight, junk food, sugary, fatty, diet, negative, exhausted, criticise, miserable
2.Skill goals: to practice some reading skills, such as, skimming and scanning.
3.Emotional goals:①develop students’ sense of group cooperation and teamwork; ②learn to live a healthy and happy life.
II.Teaching Important Point
Master key words in key sentences.
III.Teaching Difficult Point.
Arouse students’ interest in class and help them develop their ability of independent reading.
IV.Teaching aids.
Multi-media computer, power point.
V.Teaching Procedures.
Step1.Warming up and leading in.
The teacher greets the students and then use a short part of vedio.Then lead to the topic of the passage.
(Purpose:using a vedio to lead in can arouse students interest in class and draw their attention )
Step2.Free talk
Give Ss some time to discuss the disadvantages of being too fat.
(Purpose: this activity can help Ss review some vocabularies about this passage and give more chances to learn about new words in the article.)
Step3.Skimming
Ask the Ss to read the passage quikly with the following questions.
Q1:Is Jane happy?
Q2:How many people offer Jane some advice?
Q3:What kind of advice does Healthy Heather give?
Q4:Who has the similar experience as Jane?
(Purpose: Let the Ss read with questions as quikly as they can, so they can get the main idea of the article)
Step4.Scanning
Ask the Ss to read the passage again and finish the exercises.
(Purpose:to get more understanding about the article especially for some details in the article.)
Step5.Group work.
Ask the Ss to dicuss how to help Jane solve the problems with their own idea. The teacher will show Ss some pictures about the topic.
(Purpose:This activity can the Ss review some expression about healthy lifestyles and to prepare for the next activity.)
Step6.Writing.
To write a short passage with given words and sentences.
(Purpose: help Ss to use what they have learnt in class)

I.Analyzing teaching material (教材分析)
1. lesson type(课型): Reading
2. status and function(本课在教材中的地位). The martiral is from Module11in the second term of Grade8. The title is “Healthy is Happy”.It is foucused on healthy lifestye. Scince it is a reading matiral, the class foucuses on improving Ss’ reading ability.
3. teaching guideline (指导思想)
Language is for communication, develop their four skills, lay special
emphasis on reading;teachers put it in his book developing reading
skills: develop reading skill/ discourse analysis; get them to understand
the importance of health and to live a healthy and happy lifestyle better; improve the ability to discover, analyze & solve the problems;
Reading is for information, for fun; Use Top- down model or Bottom- up model to activate Ss in countryside.
4.Teaching aims and demands.(目标与要求)

II.Teaching Methods.(教学方法)
Audio-video; communicative approach; Task-based learning; Ss in Grade8 should learn and read independently gradually. This needs the teacher to guide them to learn correctly. In this lesson the teacher uses the reading modle of “PWP”(pre-reading, while-reading, post-eading). In pre-reading part, the teacher helps activate Ss’ interest and basic knowledge of reading, especially the vocabularies.
III.Study Methods.(学法)
Teach the Ss how to develop reading skills: skim and scan, how to learn in group cooperatedly, how to learn new words.
