I. Material analysis
The theme of unit 6 Topic 3 is about traffic. Students are familiar with and interested in this topic. This lesson is the No.2 Period in topic 3. The main activities are 1a and 2a. The target language about asking the way and showing the way is the basic content of this lesson. What’s more, the teacher should enable students to express more traffic signs and public things such as traffic lights、public phone、sidewalk、crosswalk and so on. So it’s very important to learn this lesson well. For this lesson, the students have mastered some simple words about traffic signs, such as turn left, no right turn…but they don’t know some difficult new words like crosswalk, sidewalk, no parking…and most of them are afraid to speak English.
II. Teaching aims 1. Knowledge aims
(1) Students should master and use the key words and phrases properly, such as Until, kilometer, should, change, stop, sidewalk, public, light, crosswalk, danger (2) Students should know how to use “Excuse me, could you tell me the way to…” “Excuse me, where is…” to ask others and use the learnt structures “ Go along… until you get to… ” “You need to take Bus ...Then you should change to...at ... Stop. ” to show the way. 2. Ability aims
(1). enable students to say the meaning of the traffic signs;
(2). enable students to understand the correct expressions of asking the way and show the way.
(3). enable students to read simple map and traffic rules in English 3. Emotional aims
(1). By pair works and group works, students can improve their awareness of cooperating with others.
(2). By learning traffic signs and traffic rules, students can improve their awareness of keeping safe on the street.
(3). It’s good for students to help strangers in our daily life.
III. The key points and difficult points
The key and difficult points of this lesson are the new words about traffic signs and the usage of “Go along… until you get to… ” “You need to take Bus ...Then you should change to...at ... Stop. ”
IV. Learning strategies and teaching methods
(1). As for the learning strategies, students will learn through communicating and cooperating with their partners. They also should pay attention to the key information in listening practice.
(2). The main teaching methods will be used in this lesson include the Audio-lingual Method and the Communicative Approach. The teacher can give the

students some tasks and arrange four kinds of activities: make up conversations, listen practice, group competition and making a small survey in practical life.

The teacher can use tape recorder、maps、blackboard and PPT as the teaching aids. VI. Teaching procedures
Stage 1: Greeting and lead-in (5 min)
Step 1: Greet students with some simple language in daily communication Step 2: Arrange some tasks for them, present a picture of lucky dog
(Purpose of design:To prepare for the next stage)
Stage 2: Presentation (10 min)
Step1: Present some pictures on PPT and teach new words about traffic signs using
“ what’s this sign”. Show the first picture and ask one of students “what’s this sign”, If any one of group member gets the answer, he can get one point for his group.
Step 2: Use the same way to teach “parking, no parking, danger…”
(Purpose of design:To encourage students to work in groups of four to learn the words according to pictures and use the group competition to raise their awareness of cooperation and competition.)
Step 3: Suppose there are two foreigners in Beijing. One is going to Dinghao Building. The other is going to Beitai Road. But they don’t know the directions. Play the vedio of 1a to finish 1b on textbooks. Step 4: Check the answers in 1b and 2a
(Purpose of design:To allow them to understand others better by listening.
To be familiar with the polite expressions of asking the way and know about western culture. )
Step 5: Explain the new structure and recite together: -How far is your home from your school?
-My home is two kilometers away from my school.
Stage 3: Consolidation (15 min)
Step 1: Present the picture of Lucky dog again. Here comes Task 3. Listen and
follow 1a. Remind students to pay attention to prounication and intonation.
Step 2: Read the first dialogue in 1a by themselves for three times.
Step 3: Show them a map of local area. Act as a stranger to inerview the whole
students. They should use the words and phrases they have learnt today to answer the questions.
(Purpose of design:To teach the new structures amd provided guided oral
practice using the target language. To plant the idea in their mind that students should help others in a right way)
Step 4: Present the new structures in 1a. Highlight the new expression “take...,
change to...at...stop” by red print.
Step 5: Explain the meaning in details and ask students to read the sentences

together.
(Purpose of design:To enable students master the teaching materials and get ready for outputing of language in practical life)
Stage 4: Extension (10 min)
Step 1: Set up a situation“ one of your partner will go to Dayan Mountain,
please give directions to him”
Step 2: Ask students to work in pairs to make a small conversation. Step 3: Act it out in front of the whole class.
(Purpose of design:To encourage students to speak English in public and
have a clear understanding of the importance of using English)
Stage 5: Summary and homework (5 min)
Step 1: Sum up what they have learnt in this class today. Step 2: Assign the homework
One is doing exercise on learning paper.
The other is previewing Page 47.
Step 3: Sum up their behavior in this class and encourage them on time.
(Purpose of design:To help students consolidation the language points of
this lesson more purposely.)
