Analysis of the teaching material
The type of this lesson is designed as listening and speaking. The topic of unit one is about first aid. After listening and reading the dialogue, students will get to know the conjectural function of modal verbs and grasp how to give someone basic medical help and save ourselves in accidents, which also lays the foundation of learning what to do in an earthquake in unit two.

Use the expressions about first aid in certain situations correctly. 3. Emotion aim:
Learn to protect ourselves and help others in accidents.

Grasp the first aid suggestions in the dialogue by listening and reading. 2. Difficult teaching points:
Use the first aid suggestions in different situations to give others basic medical help.
IV. Teaching steps
1. Leading in
Use a short video of a little boy who fell down when he was running up the stairs.
Design intention: Let students know accidents may happen in our daily life and arouse students’ wishes to help others when they have accidents. 2. Learning aims:
3. Checking and explaining
(1) Show the pictures of topic vocabulary in this lesson and let students speak out the words to check if they have grasped the vocabulary in this lesson.
(2) Let students look at the following pictures and describe what are they doing and read the red words (topic vocabulary in this lesson)together.
Design intention: Use the three pictures to check if students have grasped the topic vocabulary in this Lesson, which also lays the foundation of listening practise in A2.
(3)Let students listen to the recording and fill in the blanks and pay attention what may happen if they do such things.
Design intention: I changed A2 in the text to fill in the blanks using the topic words of this lesson to check if students can recognize the topic vocabulary in this lesson and let students read them together to consolidate the topic vocabulary and get to the dialogue smoothly.
4. Cooperating and exploring
(1) In this part students watch the flash first and answer the question about what their class is about and pay attention to the pronunciation,intonation and how to link words and which words are stressed, which lay the foundation of reading the dialogue.
After that, students work in groups to read the dialogue and list all the first aid suggestions in the dialogue and read it twice.
Design intention: Let students input the correct pronunciation and get to know the first aid suggestions first and then students will read the dialogue and list the first aid suggestions more easily and smoothly.
(2)Watch the video and pay attention to what they are doing and then check if they are doing the right things or not.
Design intention: A different way is used to check if students have grasped the first aid suggestions in
this dialogue and watching the video can also arouse students’ interest to check if they’re doing the correct things.
5. Expanding and extending
Let students watch videos and pictures about accidents that may happen in our lives and choose one of the situations to act out how to give someone basic medical help with the help of the key words.
Design intention: Design two tasks of different levels for students to choose,which aims to help all the students participate in group work. While students are acting out, let other students check if they are doing the right thins. If not ,correct them. 6. Summary and homework
Let students summarize the first aid suggestions they learnt in the dialogue and from the performances by classmates and write them down on paper cards.
Homework is designed to help students remember all the first aid suggestions and encourage them to search more knowledge about first aid by themselves. V. Blackboard design:
VI. Teaching reflection:
I use describing the pictures and listening to the recording of A2 to help students grasp the topic
vocabulary of this lesson, which reaches the knowledge aim of this lesson successfully. And after watching the flash of this dialogue and reading it, students have input enough information so they can output the first aid suggestions more easily.
However, as for checking if the students in the video were doing the right things or not, maybe I should let them work in groups to have a discussion first and then let them review their actions and check. It may have a better effect.
