I.Analysis of the teaching material:
The teaching material is from Module 8 Accident, Book 8A, New Standard English.This module focuses on the topic of accident by telling stories. The previous reading material tells a story about an accident which happened to a cook named Henry by using past continuous with adverbial clauses. The whole story presents a clear sequence of events which is important in writing a story. The writing task is a short story about an accident based on clues. II. Teaching objectives:
By the end of the class, students will be able to : 1. understand the factors and features of a story
2. use the correct tense (simple past and past continuous ) and adverbial clauses of time in a story
3. think creatively based on clues,logically by looking for the logical relationship between events and critically by looking at things from different sides
4. evaluate their own and peers’ writing with a checklist III. Anticipated difficulties:
Students might find it difficult to
1. use the adverbial clauses of time properly
2. focus on the logical relationship between events in a story
Teaching procedures: Teaching Activities Learning Activities Intention
I. Warm up and Lead-in
1. Greet the students and present a word puzzle.
2. Lead to the topic of the story about an accident. 1.Complete the word puzzle and find out the topic. 2.Talk
about their understanding of accidents.
To break the ice and lead to the topic.
II. Free talk
Encourage the students to talk about the main factors of a story and features of the language by reading a short story. Think and talk about the main factors of a story and features of the language. To get ready for writing a story. III. Writing 1.Make a plan
Present the beginning of the story and guide the students to think about a logical plan of the story. 2.Draft writing Ask the students to write about the rest of the story. 3.Review and improve
Help them think about how to make a better writing and ask them to work in groups to improve the story with the writing checklist.
1. Think and talk about the logical plan.

3. Discuss how to make a better writing and work in groups to improve the story and do a self-editing. To get ready for the
