Teaching design: Module 1 My Classmates
Unit 2 I’m Wang Lingling and I’m thirteen years old I.Analysis of teaching material 1. Teaching model: reading and speaking 2. Teaching period: period 1 3. Status and function:
The teaching content is Unit 2 Module1 for the first term Grade 7 students, which is published by Foreign Language Teaching and Research Press. This unit is mainly talked about the three students’ self-introductions , which is about their names, ages, hometown ,their friends and so on. By learning this unit, students must know that these self-introductions are made to make new friends, so it’s crucial for them to understand the aim of the passage. Morever, “First name” and “Last name” are referred to in Tony’s self-introduction and so does it in Around the world. Therefore, you can integrate into the two parts of the material.
This unit plays a great part in Module 1. The topic of self-introduction is further expanded and developed on the basis of Unit1. It’s helpful to improve students’ reading and speaking ability, and it will provide a good preparation for the following writing task of this module. Reading belongs to input during the process of learning English but speaking
belongs to output in it. Therefore, if students can learn this unit well, it will be of great help for the rest of the module. 4. Analysis of students
Students in Grade 7 have been learning English for almost of 5 years, and they can understand the simple passage. At the same time, they are interested in the topic “self-introduction”.The students at this age are interested in challenges. So I design some tasks for them to challenge in this class.
However, some of them may be shy and not brave in class,and don’t have good reading strategies, so I will try my best to build an active and harmonious atmosphere to encourage them. I’m sure they will learn the new knowledge step by step and enjoy themselves. 5. Teaching condition
I’ve been teaching English for more than 20 years, and I am always trying the task-based teaching approach, and make a good effect in achieving teaching aims.
II.Teaching aims
1. Knowledge objects
Enable students to perceive and understand some key vocabulary about the topic. 2. Ability objects
Enable students to predict the main idea of the article by reading the
title and look at the pictures.
Enable students to identify the specific information about different people by learning to use reading strategies like skimming and scanning.
Enable students to give personal information with target language and introduce themselves. 3. Emotion objects
Enable students to cultivate good communication attitude and learn to respect others’ habits to make them comfortable. 4. Learning strategies
Students make full preparations and try to take more opportunities to speak and communicate with others.
Students can master how to introduce themselves, make new friends and help each other. 5. Cultural consciousness
Enable students to understand the differences in names of Chinese people and people in western countries.
III.Teaching important and difficult points

Students can understand the passage and find specific information. Students can introduce themselves and know the differences of Chinese names and foreigners’ names,especially in England and America. 2. Difficult points
How to make students understand the passage.
How to make students understand first name and last name correctly. How to make students introduce themselves .

V.Teaching procedures:
Step1. Greeting and lead-in
Greet students as usual and lead in the new topic with ask-and-answer activity. Then students finish Part1 on page4.
Purpose: This step draws forth the topic and let students review what were learned in the last period. At the same time, it aims to create a relaxing English learning environment for students and arouse the
students’ English studying interests. Step2: Pre-reading Task1: Learn key words
Learn “everyone”in the talking and show the picture for students to learn “capital”, paying attention to the use of “and”. Task2:Predicting
Look at the tittle and the pictures for students to predict what the passage about.
Purpose: This step is to smooth away the new difficult key words and predict something for students to prepare for the following reading tasks.
Step3. While-reading Task1: Skimming for questions
“How many people are there in the passage? Who are they?” Task2: Scanning and completing Scan the text and fill the table. Task3:Checking and correcting
Listen to the text recordings, have a discussion ,check and correct the false.
Task4: First name / last name
Ask two questions for students to answer and understand First name and Last name.
Purpose: All the tasks in this step are to lead students to understand the passage by using some reading strategies like skimming and scanning. Morever, it is helpful for them to grasp the key points: first name and last name. Step4. Post-reading
Task1: Looking and speaking(pair work)
Look at the pictures and do ask-and-answer activity.(see Activity5 on Page 5)
Task2: Report
Students have a report “Introduce myself”.
Purpose: Two tasks are designed for students to practise their output by speaking and talking, which embodies the concept “Learning by doing and learning in using”. And at the same time it aims to cultivate their cooperative spirit and solve the problems in groups. Step5. Sum up
Help students summarize what are learned in this period.
Purpose: This steps help students to summarize what are learned and make a self-assessment. Step6. Homework 1. Level A(for all)
Introduce yourself to the classmates. 2. Level B.(for those who have interest)
