Teaching aims: By the end of the lesson, the students will be able to:
1. develop the ability of getting the general meaning of the text from the title and its context. 2. get a good understanding of the text through thinking and answering questions based on it. 3. understand the importance of the wetlands as well as the wildlife, and learn to love and protect them.
Teaching procedures Step 1 Leading-in
1. Show a picture of a wetland and present some new words.
2. Lead the students to knowing the importance of the birds to the wetland. Step 2 Revision
1. Show some pictures of different kinds of birds. 2. Revise the names of the birds. Step 3 While-reading
1. Skim the passage with the sound and try to find out what each paragraph is about. 2. Scan the passage and do T or F exercises. Step 4 Further reading
1. Read Paragraph 1 and figure out the location that makes Zhalong special. 2. Read Paragraph 2 and find out some rare birds living there. 3. Read Paragraph 3 and tell the two main problems the birds face.
4. Read Paragraph 3 to 5 and find out what actions people should take to protect Zhalong. Step 5 Post-reading 1. Make a summary.
2. Talk about Zhalong in pairs. Step 6 Discussion
1. Watch a short video and get to know the birds are in danger. 2. Work in groups and discuss how to protect the birds.
Homework
1. Read the passage again and try to remember the new words.
2. Find more information about Zhalong Nature Reserve and introduce it to your parents.
