Unit 4 Why don’t you talk to your parents?
Section A (1a-2c)
Teaching aims and demands:
1. Knowledge objects:
Key words: allow, wrong, midnight, too much ,hang out with sb,too many, get into fight with sb Target language:
① —What’s wrong?
—I’m really tired because I studied until midnight last night. ② You could /should go to sleep earlier. ③ I think you should finish your homework first. ④ Why don’t you/Why not talk to your parents? 2.Ability objects: (1)Talk about problems.
(2)Learn to give advice about problems.
3. Emotion, attitude and value: Everyone has his own problems, don’t worry them. We should learn to solve them.
Teaching key points and difficult points:
1. Talk about the problems 2. Learn some language points
3. How to give advice and some ways to give advice.
Teaching methods:
Communicative teaching method, audio-visual teaching method, task-based teaching method
Teaching aids:
A multimedia computer, a tape recorder,a blackboard,some pictures
Teaching procedures:
Step 1 Warming up and Lead-in 1.Greet the students and introduce myself. 2.Enjoy a song.
Ask: What’s the problem with them? Do you have any problems ? 3.Saying and writing. Give out students some pieces of paper to write their own problems according to the clues on the screen. Then collect them and get students to read out their problems. Ask several students to give some advice they can.
4. Tell students everyone has his own problems, it’s normal. Don’t worry, we can find good ways to solve them. Please look at others’problems. Step 2 Presentation
1. Look at some pictures. Teach students some key words and sentences. Get students to know about some problems. Get students to read the problems aloud.
2. Look at 1a. Ask: Do you think they are serious or not? Write their answers in 1a. Check them and ask several students to answer. Step 3 Listening 1b
1. T: Tell Ss to read the sentences in 1a again. Make sure they know the meaning of the sentences.
2. Play the recording for the Ss to listen and circle the problems you hear in 1a.
3. Play the recording again. Check the answers with the Ss. Step 4 A guessing game
1. Tell students to relax for a minute. Imagine students have these problems and guess what’s wrong with you.
2. Get several students to guess and to teach them how to give advice Step5 Pair work
1. Let Ss read the conversation in the box.
2. Use the information in 1a to make other conversations. 3. Let some pairs act out their conversations.
Step 6 Listening 2a &2b
1.First get the students to read the instruction and understand the means of could and should. Then get them to listen and fill in the blanks. Share their answers.
2.Read and understand the five sentences in 2a.
3. Give the students 20 seconds to prepare for listening. Listen again and match the problems with the advice. Share their answers. Read the sentences in 2b. Step 7 Summary
Get students to sum up first. Help them to sum up the key points. Step 8 Game
Divide class into four groups. Let’s play a game .The group which gives the most advice to the problems will be the winner. Step 9 Homework:
1)Recite key words and sentences.
2)Try to give advice to your friend/family’s problems. Blackboard Design
