Help students to revise what is learnt in Unit one of this module.
Part II : Preparation
Step one Teach new words: show some pictures of Xuejiawan, ask the Ss to see “what was it like in the past and what is it like now” using the new words in A1.
Step two leads the Ss to answer the two Qs in A1. 1. Why do people move to cities?
2. What are the problems of big cities?
Read the report of pollution and its problems.
See the pictures and say what they see in the pictures, and how things change in Xuejiwan.
Read the answers:
1. Because they want to find jobs and have a better life.
There are more beautiful flats than in the village.
There are better hospitals than in the countryside.
Review is the basic of
everything and get the topic ready.
Real situation creating. and let the Ss to know we will learn sth around the topic.
New vocabulary learning. And prepare for the text learning and reduce the difficulty of reading.
Step three Fast reading
“OK. Today we will learn another city. Let’s learn to find why do people move to this big city and what’s its problems.” 1. Show the title and the main point of the passage:
People move from Parkville to Arnwick.
2. Fast reading
Ask the Ss to read fast and find the main idea
A. Shows the disadvantages(不利) of how cities have grown over the years(多年来).
B. Shows that life in the city can be enjoyable(快乐的). C. Shows the dangers of city life. 3. Ask the Ss to read fast and find the main ideas of each paragraph and give them reading tips:
Find the main idea from the first or the last sentence of the paragraph.
Step four Careful reading 1. Read slowly and find the answers to the Qs
1) Why do people move to Arnwick?
2)What are the problems of Arnwick?
3)What does Arnwick need?
2. Ask the Ss to read slowly and check the true
sentences and correct the wrongs.
The schools and offices are better. 2. There are too many people. There is too much rubbish, traffic and noise. There is too much pollution, such as
air and water pollution and so on.

Step five Retelling
1. Play the video and let the Ss to understand the passage.
2. Lead the Ss to retell the passage.
Step six Writing
1. Ask the Ss to read and check the problems that our
home town has.
2. Ask the Ss to talk about solutions to the Qs.
Give them some vocabulary, phrases and sentences helping.
Eg. create more jobs
go to universities

sentences and correct the wrongs
Watch the video and pay attention to difference of the life of Arnwick in the past and now. Retell the story following the T with the help of the structure map. Read the Qs and think about them and choose some facts about Xuejiawan. Talk with group members and show their answers to the whole class.
