Objectives
Students will be able to:
1. Master the new words (rainy, cloudy, sunny, snowy, windy) and sentences (- What’s the weather like in ...? - It’s... )
2. Learn to use the language points in context and express themselves more freely on the theme of weather.
3. Appreciate the benefit of group work through cooperative activities in pairs or groups.
Teaching procedures Step 1: Warm-up 1. Revision
Show a map of China and ask students to report the weather in different cities. - What’s the weather like in these cities?
- It’s cold in Harbin./ It’s warm in Beijing./ It’s cool in Lhasa./ It’s hot in Hong Kong. 2. Lead-in
That’s what we’ve learnt last time. Do you want to know more words about weather? OK! Step 2: Presentation
1. Show the picture of different weather words. - What’s the weather like?
- It’s rainy/cloudy/sunny/snowy/windy.
2. Listen to and repeat these words. (whole class - group - individual - whole class) Rainy, rainy, it’s rainy.
3. Spell the words and find out the similarities.
All of them end with the the letter “y” (adjective)
Can you guess what’s the meaning of the word without the letter “y”? (rain, cloud, sun, snow, wind) (nouns) 4. Guessing game
Show part of the pictures and have students guess the words.
Step 3: Read and answer
1. Read the dialogue on P and answer the question: What's the weather like in Sydney? (It's
hot and sunny.) 2. Listen and repeat.
3. Role play the dialogue.
Step 4: Talk about the weather
1. Show pictures of different places and have students guess the name of cities (Beijing, London, Moscow, Singapore, New York, Sydney) 2. Pair- work: talk about the weather in different cities. A: What's the weather like in Sydney?
B: It's hot and sunny. 2. Present their dialogues.
Step 5: Weather report
1. Look at the world weather and report the weather. 2. Have volunteers to report the weather.
Step 6 : Free talk
Work in pairs and tell each other what's your favorite weather and why. I like ... because I can....
Assignments:
1. Listen to and read the new words and sentences. 2. Write a sentence to introduce your favorite weather. 3. Prepare for the next session. Blackboard design:
