Knowledge and ability objects: 1. Key vocabulary and phrases:
surprise, move, snake, tent, tired, scared, so…that…, go camping, make a fire to keep warm, get a terrible surprise, feel things moving 2. Target language:
We put up our tents and made fire to keep us warm and cook food on. I was so tired that I went to sleep early. /I was so scared that I couldn’t move.
When we looked out of our tent, we saw a big snake sleeping near the fire. My dad told me later that snakes don’t have ears but can feel things moving.
3. Grammar: To review the simple past tense.
4. To develop students’ reading ability (skimming, scanning, careful reading) and integrating skills by task-based activities and to stimulate students to learn more knowledge about safety when in face of danger. Teaching important and difficult points:
1. To inspire students to know more information about Lisa’s unforgettable weekend by using the reading strategies: skimming, scanning and careful reading.
2. To enable students to retell the passage and talk about their own weekends using the simple past tense.
Teaching procedures and activities: Step One: Lead in
Talk about the singing activity of our school last weekend using simple past tense. Ask some questions about the activity. Step Two: Pre-reading
Show a picture of having a trip and guess what Lisa and her family did last weekend.
Step Three: While-reading Skimming:
Watch a micro-lesson about skimming first--learn how to skim.
Task 1: Skim for the main idea. Skim the passage and answer the questions.
1. What’s the passage mainly about? 2. How was Lisa’s last weekend?
3. What lesson did Lisa learn from the weekend? Scanning:
Watch a micro-lesson about skimming first--learn how to scan. Task 2: Read the passage and fill in the chart. 1. When did it happen? 2. Where did they go? 3. What did they do?
4. What happened(发生)next?
5. What did the father do? 6. Why did her father do this?
Then tell the story briefly with the information in the chart. Careful reading:
Task 3: Read aloud and underline these phrases.
finish high school, two weeks ago, go camping, put up the tent, make a fire, keep warm, get a terrible surprise, look out of…, see sb. doing sth., so…that…, shout to…, jump up and down, wake sb. up, It is important (not) to do sth.
Underline the phrases— Say the Chinese meaning-- Read loudly and remember the phrases—check one by one. Step Four: Post- reading
Task 4: Put the phrases in order according to the passage. Then use them to retell the story.
Finish by themselves—Check the answer—Read in the correct order. Task 5: Retell the story with the help of pictures and key words.
Describe the pictures first—Practice in pairs and groups—Show in class. Step Five: Discuss
Discuss in groups: What will we do if we are in danger?
We will… if we meet a snake/ bad persons/ a school bully/ a fire. Step Six: Summary
Task 7: Complete the sentences.
