Teaching Context
About the teaching content:
Unit 4, entitled as “Why don’t you talk to your parents”, seeks to give students a better understanding of how to talk about daily problems and give advice. As the third period of this unit, students have already known how to give advice in a proper way by using modal verb, but many of them often make mistakes when it comes to their own daily life. And this lesson will be carried out mainly from three parts:
※ Exploration: observe a video about different students’ pressure .
※ Listening: listen to a conversation and be able to know how to deal with stress. ※ Speaking: express their thoughts of pressure independently.
About the target students:
The target students are 40 Grade-8 students, whose ages are from 14 to 15. The following information and knowledge about these learners have been taken into consideration in lesson planning: Previous knowledge----Previously they have learned some expressions about giving advice in
Grade7. And in Section A Students know how to express problems and give advice in a proper way, which forms a solid cognitive basis for the learning of this lesson.
Thinking manners----Students of this age mainly rely on both imaginary thinking and logical
thinking in learning new words, which means they learn better with visual aids, such as video, pictures. And stimulate their schemata can help to attract their attention and arouse their passion for learning.
Learning style---These young learners enjoy interaction with both the teacher and peer
classmates in English learning. Therefore, competition games and role-play activities will be effective in this class.

Teaching Objectives
By the end of the class, students will be able to: 1. Language knowledge:
* understand new words and phrases (hang out, family member, compete with, pressure etc.) * know the key sentences about giving advice:
Sb should/could/had better do sth.
2. Language skills:
* improve Ss’ listening skills especially the micro-listening skills for certain word. * learn to use proper sentence patterns to dive advice in daily life. * be able to think and write their own opinion independently. * be able to speak out their own opinion bravely.

* develop a healthy mind towards life and study.
* increase the friendship between classmates through different tasks.
4. Culture:
* broaden their international mind and understand the cultural diversity.
* generate the consciousness of English debate competition.

Step 1: Bridge-in
Invite all the students to watch an interview about whether the
students have pressure and why they have so much pressure.At the same time, ask students to talk about their true feelings.

Step 2: Pre-listening 1)Teacher lists several activities that may help students to lower their pressure then ask students to choose their favorite things and talk about it with their partners.
Step3: While-listening
1) Teacher first shows a cartoon picture of a boy on ppt to ask students to guess the boy’s mood and feeling without explaining why. Then tell students to shift students attention to do the listening practice in 1b to listen the problems the boy have. 2)Teacher asks students to do a dictation of the advice that his friend may give to him. Then finish 1d to complete the sentences and see whether their prediction is right or not.
Step 4 Post-Listening
1) Teacher first asks students together to summary the sentences that can be used to give advice.
2) Asks students to form their own opinions to give advice for the boys’ problems and express the reasons.
Step5: Post-assessment
1)T presents a question to draw students’ attention. And at the same time, Present the rules English debate competition to let students form the ability of dialectical thinking. 2) T tells the students the truth of their debate.
Step6: Conclusion
Teacher asks students to conclude what can we learned today and make a self-check about themselves. Step7: Homework
Write a short passage to record today’s English debate competition.
