This is a reading passage from Unit 3 Protect the Earth, Oxford English 7A. The theme is close to students¡¯ lives and matches the requirement of our school. So it will surely arouse the students¡¯ great sense of responsibility. Since it¡¯s a reading passage, how to provide a comprehensive input and prompt a productive output is the learning and training focus, and reading tasks will be the main classroom activities. The first-year juniors have got certain basic language skills, but their reading skills and ability of comprehension are not as good as expected, which will be improved in this period.

Skimming is used to guess the main idea of the passage.
Scanning is used to find the specific information to complete the given tasks.
Finding implicit information can help students to get a deeper understanding of the passage.
By practicing different types of reading strategies, the students will be guided to read effectively. It¡¯s helpful to improve their reading ability.
The teacher will monitor the class while the students are doing the exercises.
Task1: Skimming
The teacher is going to have the students conduct skimming for the main idea.
The students will get the main ideas.
Task2: Scanning
The teacher is going to have the students conduct scanning for specific information.
The students firstly sort the passage into two parts according to the headings given.
Then they will read Part1 to complete the form and Part2 to simply list what right things John F. Dancer did to protect himself and his dog.
Task3:
Implicit Reading
The teacher is going to give some comprehensive questions to students and get them to find out the implicit information between lines.
The Students work individually first.
They first read the questions and then look for the implicit information to support their answers.
Then the students will share and discuss the answers with their group members

Sharing opinions
The teacher is going to have the students read again and in groups describe the four characters on their own judgment from the reading and find reasons to support their ideas.
