The topic of this unit is Online Tours. The text is in the form of a web page, showing an eight-hour online tour around the world. Based on the tour route of New York, this text introduces the basic information of four famous landmark attractions in New York City, including Wall Street, Times Square, Central Park and Broadway theatre, from the perspective of a tour guide. The value of the text is that it reflects the text features of the web page, and the language of the text is rich in the characteristic language of the tour guide.
Teaching objectives:
By the end of the class, students will be able to
1. get the basic information of the website “Around the world in Eight Hours”, including basic knowledge of website, several famous attractions in New York City through reading.
2. describe the main attractions in New York by using the language learned in this lesson and present the structural knowledge of the attractions in New York City with the help of structure maps.
3. infer the author's intention to choose these attractions in New York and preliminarily analyze the economic, cultural and artistic achievements in New York from the cultural perspective.
